The West African Examination Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is an examination that is administered by the West African Examination Council (WAEC). The examination is administered yearly. It is open to candidates from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.

The WAEC examination is open to both private and school candidates. So, this leads us to the question of the day, “which universities in South Korea accept WAEC result?”.

Most universities in South Korea accepts WAEC results from West African students. However, you need to meet their minimum requirements before you’re offered admission to a South Korean university.

Before applying to study in South Korea, there are some requirements that must be fulfiled for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Requirements of South Korean Universities

Depending on the level of your education, South Korean universities have different requirements for all programmes. So, before applying, you need to carefully review these requirements.

For undergraduate programs, most courses in South Korean universities are taught in Korean. It is most likely that you’ll have to learn the language first and provide proof of proficiency in the said language.

Generally, a Korean language proficiency certificate is required, TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) level 3 (intermediate level) or above is required for admittance, except for an English exclusive school.

The general admission period for Korean universities for Spring is between September to November, and for Fall, it is between May to June. The exact application period may start at different times depending on universities.

For postgraduate programs, most universities are starting to offer international programs taught in English. These programs will no longer require examination results and are suitable for international applicants. However, you’ll need to somewhat be proficient in English. Recommended English Proficiency Tests are TOEFL or IELTS.

As an international student, you can also apply for the Korean Government Scholarships for international students.

  • Medical Certificate showing how healthy an applicant is
  • O’ level Results and Transcripts showing grades (WAEC/NECO)
  • A Valid International Passport

Postgraduate Admission Requirements

  • English/Korean Language Proficiency Test Result (as required by your course)
  • Birth Certificate or Attestation of Birth
  • Medical Certificate showing how healthy an applicant is
  • O’ level Results and Transcripts showing grades (WAEC/NECO)
  • A Valid International Passport
  • Undergraduate Certificate
  • Academic Transcript
  • Should provide Two Reference Letters
  • Statement of Purpose and/or Research Proposal

NOTE: All required documents should be presented with official copies translated into Korean.

Importantly, note that most of these universities will only accept this result when you provide your score of English/Korean Proficiency for admission.
