There are a lot of Scholarships in Sweden for International Students 2024/2025. In this update, you will get to know the available scholarships for international students to study in Sweden. You will also get to know the application guidelines and their application guidelines.

It is important to note that Sweden is one of the few European countries where you can study for free (Tuition free countries in Europe). The Swedish Government has passed a law that charges tuition and application fees for students from non-EU/EEA countries to be supplemented by Swedish Scholarship Programs. A significant number of Swedish Universities still offer scholarships in the form of tuition waivers for international students.

Many organizations are giving out scholarships to undergraduate, masters, PhD students. This scholarship is available to both national and international students. Top 20 Scholarships in Sweden for International Students

1. Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals

The Swedish Institute (SI) is now launching the Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP), a new scholarship programme which replaces Swedish Institute Study Scholarships (SISS). SISGP offers scholarships to a large number of master’s programmes starting in the autumn semester 2020.

How to Apply for Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals

  1. To begin with, apply for a master’s programme at universityadmissions.se, between 16 October 2020 – 15 January 2021.
  2. Apply for an SI scholarship between 10-20 February 2021, follow the instructions below.

2. The Visby Programme Scholarships

The Visby Programme provides a number of full scholarships for master’s programmes in Sweden to students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. The scholarship covers the tuition fee, living expenses of SEK 9,000 per month, insurance, and a one-time travel grant of SEK 5,000.

3. Blenkinge Institute of Technology Scholarship Programme

BTH scholarship programme for prospective students is available for citizens from non-EU/EEA countries who are required to pay tuition fees for Swedish university education. This scholarship programme offers scholarships covering tuition fees in part. The available levels of tuition fee reductions are 50% and 75%.

October 16th, 2020: Application round 1 for BTH scholarship  for prospective students opens.

January 15th, 2021: Application round 1 for BTH scholarship for prospective students closes.

February 1st, 2021: Deadline for receipt of application fee. When the application fee has been paid, the evaluation of the scholarship applications will start.

5. University of Borås Tuition Fee Waivers

The University of Borås offers tuition fee waivers to highly qualified students required to pay tuition fees and who are applying for eligible Masters Programmes at the University. The scholarships are intended to cover the tuition fee by approximately 75%, they are not designed to cover living costs.

The application for scholarships for 2021 opens in December.

Students who are granted a scholarship will be notified shortly after the selection result is published in April 2021.

6. Chalmers IPOET Scholarships

Chalmers will be offering around 50 IPOET scholarships in 2019, funded by the Swedish Council for Higher Education, to prospective fee-paying students.

How to Apply for Chalmers IPOET Scholarships

To apply, you must first make an online application to one or several Master’s programmes at Chalmers at the website universityadmissions.se. Each applicant is assigned an 8 digit application number (from your application for Master’s programmes at universityadmissions.se) and this number is required in order to complete the scholarship application. The deadline for scholarship applications is 15 January 2021.

7. The University of Gothenburg Axel Adler Scholarship

The Axel Adler Scholarship is the University of Gothenburg’s main scholarship programme for fee paying students. It covers the tuition fee for the recipient. We award scholarships every year. The application process follow the timeline of our programme admission.

How to Apply for Axel Adler Scholarships

Only applicants with a University of Gothenburg programme as their first choice are eligible to apply for a scholarship. Eligible students will receive an email with application instructions by 8 February 2021. If you are an eligible student and have not received an email, please let us know at scholarships@gu.se.

8. Karolinska Institute Global Master’s Scholarships in Sweden

The Karolinska Institute offers 10 scholarships per year, spread to all the Global Master’s Program to excellent students starting each autumn semester.

How to Apply for Karolinska Institute Global Master’s Scholarship

All applicants to the Global Master’s program at Karolinska Institute who are obliged to pay tuition fees and have paid the application fee to University Admissions will receive information and an invite to apply for the KI Global Master’s Program scholarship after the last day to pay the application fee and submit supporting documents.

9. Halmstad University Scholarships

Each year, Halmstad University offers a number of scholarships to qualified students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees. These scholarships are towards Master’s Programmes within any field of study offered at the University. The Halmstad University Scholarship covers 25% or 50% of the tuition fee and will be deducted from the tuition fee.

10. Karlstad University Global Scholarship Progamme

The Karlstad University Global Scholarship programme aims to attract top academic students from countries outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) who are required to pay tuition fees for studies. Scholarships cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the tuition fees.

11. Kristianstad University Scholarships

The scholarship will be awarded to citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA who are required to pay tuition fee for studies at Kristianstad University. If granted a scholarship, it will include a full or partial reduction of the tuition fee.

12. Linnaeus University Scholarships

Linnaeus University Scholarships are for students who are from a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland and who have applied for a study programme at Linnaeus University.  The scholarships usually cover 75 percent of the tuition fee but a few scholarship from the Linnaeus Academy of Science and Business cover 100 percent of the tuition fee.

Next application round will open February 8, 2021 for students that will commence their studies at Linnaeus University during autumn 2021.

13. Linköping International Scholarships

The LiU International Scholarship is aimed at supporting international students with significant academic potential from countries outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) who are required to pay tuition fees for studies.

In 2021, the  application period will be open between 9 and 12 April.

14. Lund University Global Scholarship Programme

The Lund University Global Scholarship Programme is targeted at top academic students who are citizens of countries from outside the EU/EEA (and Switzerland) and are required to pay a tuition fee  The scholarships are available for Bachelor’s or Master’s level studies.  Scholarships may cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the tuition fee.

Application Deadline: Students applying for degree programmes in English for Autumn 2020 (August/September) session should apply:

  • Late October – 15th January 2021 for studies starting in the autumn semester (August/September).
  • Application for the scholarship will be in early February 2021, after the deadline to apply for studies.

15. Mälardalen University Scholarships

Mälardalen University offers a limited numbers of scholarships to students coming from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees and who are applying for a master’s programme at the University as their first choice.  The scholarship will cover 100% of the tuition fee of the programme as long as you follow the normal study plan. The scholarship does not cover living expenses.

16. Mid Sweden University Tuition Fee Scholarships

All students who have applied to a study a Master’s programme at Mid Sweden University and who are required to pay tuition fees are welcome to apply for a Mid Sweden University Tuition Fee Scholarship. The scholarship is a tuition fee reduction of 70,000 SEK or 250,000 SEK depending on the chosen programme.

For high performing students applying to a study programme at Mid Sweden University,  the University is offering a number of scholarships which will result in a tuition fee reduction of 70 000 SEK or 125 000 SEK, depending on the programme one chooses to study.

17. Skovde University Scholarships

The University of Skövde offers a small number of scholarships to students who are attending a master’s programme at the University and who are liable for tuition fees. The scholarships are partial tuition fee waivers (50% tuition fee).

18. Örebro University Scholarship Programme

The Örebro University Scholarship programme is aimed at top academic students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, who are required to pay tuition fees for studies. The scholarship covers full or partial tuition fees but does not cover living expenses.

19. Uppsala IPK Scholarships

Uppsala University’s IPK scholarships are targeted to citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland and are towards Master’s programmes offered at the University. These scholarships cover the cost of tuition but not living expenses.

Uppsala University will award several scholarships for fee-paying students applying for Master’s programmes commencing in the autumn of 2019.  One of these scholarship programs is the Uppsala IPK Scholarships.

The application period for scholarships provided by Uppsala University for prospective students is from 16 January to 1 February 2021.

The deadline is 23:59 CET (Central European Time) 1 February 2021. Please consider the time zone. Applications received after the deadline will not be processed.

20. Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme

The scholarship scheme at Stockholm University is aimed at especially qualified students admitted for Master programmes coming from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland and who are required to pay tuition fees. Stockholm University scholarships cover tuition fees only, which means that students will need to cover their own living costs.
