NATIONAL TEACHING COUNCIL LICENSURE EXAMINATION FOR TEACHERS

The National Teaching Council is mandated by the Education Act 2008 (Act 778), Section 9 to improve professional standing and status of teachers and to license and register teachers in Ghana. The purpose of the Licensing Examination is to enable qualified teachers acquire a professional license; and also attract excellent young graduates from the universities and Colleges of Education who have the required professional knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to deliver effectively in schools.

Eligibility for Licensure Examination

  1. A candidate is eligible to write 2024 GTLE 1 only when he or she has a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
  2. Candidates with foreign degrees shall provide a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to provide their eligibility.
  3. The indexing fee is fifty Ghana Cedis (GHÈ» 50.00). Re-sit candidates shall not go through the indexing process.
  4. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Limited nationwide, or Mobile Money payment can be made through the shortcode *772*51# across all networks by using the candidate’s college or university index number.
  5. After successful payment, the candidate will receive a message that contains his or her name, indexing number, and futher instructions.

Registration fees:

  • Fresh candidates are required to pay GHÈ» 450.00 to register for the examination
  • Candidates who are re-sitting are to pay GHÈ»150.00 for one (1) Re-sit paper
  • Candidates who are re-sitting two (2) papers are to pay GHÈ»210.00
  • Candidates who are re-sitting all three (3) papers are to pay GHÈ» 385.00

For in-banking payment, candidates must notify the bank as re-sitting one, two, or three papers.

    • Take PIN and Serial Number from the Bank after payment
    • Log onto www.exams.ntc.gov.gh
    • Enter your e-voucher Serial No. and Pin
    • Fill in all the fields and remember to upload your Passport-size photograph
    • Review the information provided and submit
    • Print a summary of the inputs made.

NOTE: NTC will not accept any request for a change of photograph and personal details after the examination.

Candidates should keep their PIN and SERIAL NUMBERS secure after registration for the licensure examination for further use after the examination. Completed application forms should be received online no later than Tuesday 25th April 2023.

NB:

  • An announcement for registration for fresh candidates for the subject-based GTLE shall be made very soon.
  • There will be no extension in time for registration beyond the 20th February, 2024 deadline.
  • Dress code should be formal. No bathroom slippers.
  • No baby at the examination centre.

NOTE:

1. Candidates at ST. Louis, UENR and UCC Centre, Papafio shall receive text messages to confirm their exact centres. They may also visit the registration portal using their login details.

2. Numeracy shall start at exactly 9:00 am and end at 10:45 am.

3. Essential Profession Skills shall start at 11:45 am and end at 1:00 pm

4. Literacy shall start at 2:00 pm and end at 3:15 pm

5. Candidates shall not be permitted to write at any centre other than their assigned centres.

6. Candidates shall wear face mask before, during and after each paper.

7.  Candidates shall follow all COVID-19 protocols including washing of hands, use of hand sanitizers and observance of social distance.

8. Candidates shall be seated 30 minutes before the start of each paper.

    1. The examination is written in March and September. You can always register for the March batch if you can’t participate in the September batch.

  7. What is the essence of this exam? You don’t need to ask us to pay the 220gh, you should have paid it because we didn’t request for it. Changing my profession because of this exam, upon paying all the huge sum of money in the university, I should write leisure exam before I can have the opportunity to teach
