NSS Explains how Personnel Would be Selected for Service Abroad

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has set the records straight about its new programme which seeks to give fresh graduates in Ghana the opportunity to travel abroad for training as part of their national service.

According to the National Service Corporate Affairs Director, Armstrong Essah, though the government will not be responsible for the financing of participants, the programme seeks to give graduates up to four to six weeks of training with a company abroad.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show, Friday, Mr Essah said interested national service personnel would have to apply and get selected through a competitive process.

“It is not a straight posting abroad but a selection process which the secretariat will undertake about four to six weeks to the end of their service in Ghana. The application and selection process will also be based on the requirements from the user agencies abroad,” he said.

“We are only the facilitators so we will not pay them during the period but the company they will work for abroad will do so.”

Mr Essah disclosed that some private companies in Ghana have pledged to absorb service personnel as full-time employees after their service.
