General Eligibility for Recruitment into Ghana Armed Forces

Eligible applicant should:

  1. Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth.
  2. Be of good character.
  3. Not less than 18 years and not more than 40 years for Medical Specialists, 35 years for Medical/Dental Officers, 33 years for Nurses and 30 years for Paramedical personnel by 10 January 2021, or as otherwise specified.
  4. Be medically fit by Ghana Armed Forces Standard.
  5. Be not bonded.
  6. Be of minimum height of 1.68m (5` 6“) for males and 1.57m (5` 2“) for females.
  7. Must have the following:

(1)       BECE. Must have six (6) Passes at BECE including English and Mathematics.

(2)       Six credits(Not less than C6including Core EnglishCore Mathematics and Core Science at WASSCE.

                                                                         Or

(3)       Six credits(Not less than Dincluding Core EnglishCore Mathematics and Core Science at SSSCE.

                                                                         Or

(4)       Five credits. (Not less than 6including EnglishMathematics and Science at GCE ‘O’ Level and not less than D in three subjects at GCE ‘A’ Level.

Ghana Armed Forces Special Medical Intake Requirements

In addition to the general eligibility, medical and para-medical applicant must have the following:

a.        Medical Specialist. Applicant must have MB ChB/BDS or its equivalent from an accredited institution plus a relevant post-graduate qualification to the level of Membership/Fellowship (GCPS/WACS/WACP) or its equivalent from an accredited College. Dental Specialists of the following categories: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Periodontist, Dental Restorative Specialist, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist, Oral Medicine Specialist, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist, and Prosthodontist are eligible. Must have a permanent registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and not more than 40 years of age by 10 January 2021.

b.        Medical Officer & Dental Surgeon. Applicant must have MB ChB/BDS or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Must have a permanent registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council. At least, one (1) year working experience in a recognized health facility and not more than 35 years of age by 10 January 2021.

c.        Veterinary Officer. Applicants must have Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or its equivalent from an accredited institution. At least, one (1) year working experience as a Veterinary Officer in an accredited health institution. Must be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ghana and not more than 35 years of age by 10 January 2021.

d.        Clinical Psychologist. Applicants must have an Msc/MPil in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution plus one (1) year internship in Clinical practice with at least one year working experience in a recognized health facility. He/she must be fully registered with the Ghana Clinical Psychological Council (GPC) and must be 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

e.        General Nurse. Applicants with BSc/BA degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher learning who have completed the mandatory clinical rotation or national service and practiced for at least three (3) years are eligible to apply. Applicants with BSc/BA degree in Nursing with RGN basic Diploma who have practiced for at least two (2) years are eligible. All must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

f.        Nursing Tutor. Applicant must have MPhil in Nursing/Midwifery or MSc/MA in Nursing/Midwifery with a postgraduate certificate in Education. Must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana. At least, one (1) year teaching experience in an accredited Nursing/Midwifery institution is required and not more than 35 years of age by 10 January 2021.

g.        Specialized Nurses. Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse and must have a certificate in any of the following specialties: Critical Care, ENT, Peri-operative, Emergency Care, Plastics & Burns, Paediatrics and Ophthalmic Nursing. At least two (2) years working experience in a recognized health facility is required. Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

h.        Midwifery Officer. Applicants with BSc degree in Midwifery from an accredited institution who have completed the mandatory clinical rotation and have practiced for at least Three (3) years are eligible to apply. Applicants with Registered Midwifery (RM) certificate plus additional BSc degree in Midwifery from an accredited institution who have practiced for at least two (2) years could apply. All must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

i.        Biomedical Scientist.Applicant must have a BSc degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution. At least, two (2) years working experience as a Biomedical Scientist in a reputable medical laboratory facility is required. Must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council and not more than 30 years of age by 10 January 2021.

j.        Pharmacist. Applicant must have a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (BPharm) from an accredited institution. At least, two (2) years working experience as a Pharmacist in an accredited health facility. Must be registered with the Pharmacy Council and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

k.        Radiographer. Applicant must have a BSc degree in Radiology or its equivalent plus One (1) year post-qualification internship. At least, two (2) years working experience as a Radiographer in an accredited health facility is required. Must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

l.        Physiotherapist.Applicant must have a BSc degree in Physiotherapy or its equivalent plus one (1) year mandatory internship or national service. At least, two (2) years working experience as a Physiotherapist in a recognized health facility. Must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council and not more than 30 years of age by 10 January 2021.

m.        Health Services Administrator.Applicant must have a BSc degree in Administration (Health Services option) from an accredited institution and must have completed the mandatory national service. At least Two (2) years working experience as a Health Services Administrator in a recognized health facility. Must be registered with the Association of Health Services Administrators of Ghana (AHSAG) and not more than 30 years of age by 10 January 2021.

n.        Biomedical Engineer. Applicants must have a BSc degree in Biomedical Engineering with good knowledge in Information Technology and Computer Science and must have completed the mandatory national service and registered with the Allied Health Professions Council. At least, two (2) years working experience in an accredited health facility is required and not more than 30 years of age by 10 January 2021.

o.        Audiologist. Applicant must have an MSc degree in Audiology or its equivalent. At least one (1) year working experience as an audiologist. Must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

p.        Public Health Officer. Applicants must have a BSc degree in Public Health (Environmental Health or Disease Control Option) from an accredited institution plus one year post-qualification internship. Must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

q.        Physician Assistant (Medical). Applicants must have BSc degree in Physician Assistantship or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least one (1) year working experience in an accredited health facility. Must have a permanent registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

r.        Certified Registered Anaesthetists. Applicants must have BSc degree in Anaesthesia from an accredited institution with at least two (2) years working experience in an accredited health facility. Must have a permanent registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and not more than 33 years of age by 10 January 2021.

Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment Phases for SMI

All shortlisted applicants will proceed through the following phases:

  1. Documentation Phase. Qualified applicants will be invited to come along with their original documents for documentation
  2. Body Selection Phase. Applicants will be physically examined to order to ensure their physical look conforms to the Armed Forces Standards
  3. Aptitude Test Phase. Examination will be conducted for all applicants to know their level of basic logical reasoning capabilities
  4. Medical Examination Phase. Intensive medical examination will be conducted at the 37 Military Hospital for all applicants who have qualified up to this stage
  5. Vetting Phase.
  6. Interview Phase.
  7. Admission to the Training Center.

How to Apply for Ghana Armed Forces Special Medical Intake Recruitment

APPLICATION FOR 2021 SMI IN PROGRESS. All candidates are to follow instructions given by the GHQ (Personnel Administration) in the advertisement.
  1. Acquire a scratch card at FIFTY GHANA CEDIS (GH¢ 50) from the designated regional post offices.
  2. Scratch gently to reveal the pin code. The scratch card can be used for three times until a record is successfully submitted.
  3. Log on to the recruitment portal @ http://gafrecruitment.com.gh/
  4. Read through the entry requirements thoroughly.
  5. Click on the Apply Now tab to open the applicant authentication page.
  6. Enter your card serial number, pin code and select your preferred arm of service, type of commission and click submit.
  7. Enter your personal details and take note of the following from Pages 1 to 3: Page a. Select your desired vacancy and provide all other required data.
    b. Upload a scanned copy of your passport sized photograph of dimension (200 x 180 pixels), enter a valid e-mail address, personal mobile phone number in the format (233244123456) and enter any other required data.
    c. Enter your WASSCE/SSCE Index number, WASSCE/SSCE results slip serial number and select a tertiary institution from the list of schools. Enter your graduating GPA/CWA and provide all other required data. Upload only scanned copies of the following: WASSCE Results Slip and First Degree Certificate (Degree, HND). 
  8. Click on the preview button to see a summary page of all data provided. Read through this page carefully and click on the back button, if there are any modifications to be made.
  9. Click on the submit button and expect an instant e-mail and text message, which includes your unique system generated Identification Number.
  10. Print and keep a copy of the generated report as you will be required to present it, if you are shortlisted. However, if you lose your copy of the final report, go back to the recruitment portal, click on the Check Details tab, enter your unique identification number sent to you by sms/e-mail and order a re-print.

NB: Each scanned document (Passport picture, WASSCE/SSCE results slip and First Degree Certificate) to be uploaded, should not exceed 1 Megabytes and should be in JPEG picture format only.
