Government Awards 36 Best 2019 BECE Candidates

His Excellency the Vice President, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday presented awards to the 2019 best Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) candidates in Accra.

The award winners were selected from the sixteen regions of the country based on the raw scores they obtained in the BECE results.

In all, thirty-six students received the awards, a boy and a girl each from the regions.

Also included in the awards were four special students, two visually impaired, and two hearing impaired.

The Managing Director of Nestle Ghana Limited, with its Milo Brand as the headline sponsor of the awards thanked Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education for allowing Milo to partner and support in education and sports.

Speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia acknowledged that “investment in education is the best for human resource development.

He added that with the introduction of the Free SHS programme, the total number of students enrolled in senior high schools have increased tremendously.

The Vice President also commended Nestle Milo for sponsoring the Presidents awards close to two decades, parents, teachers, guardians, non-governmental organisations, development partners, pupils and all who have contributed towards the success of Ghana’s educational reforms. “We are stronger working together.” He added.

Professor Kwasi Yankah, Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education who welcomed all, on behalf of the Minister of Education, encouraged the students not to relent but to work harder to achieve more after the award.
Professor Yankah also expressed appreciation to Nestle Milo for partnering MoE and GES by sponsoring the award ceremony each year.

The package of the awards included a Samsung Tablet, variety of books, crystal plaque, medallion, assorted Nestle products and a cash prize.
