KNUST-O.R. Tambo Research Chair for Technology Entrepreneurship Scholarships 2023/2024
The O.R. Tambo Research Chair Initiative (ORTARCHI) for Technology Entrepreneurship and Employability, with funding from the National Research Foundation of South Africa, invites eligible candidates in Ghana and other African countries to apply for scholarship awards to study Master’s degree programmes (i.e., MSc/MPhil) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Business.

Category of Scholarship Awards Available
The Scholarships to be awarded by the Chair are categorized into full, partial, and fee waiver scholarship awards. The category of scholarship awards to be given to an applicant will be dependent upon the economic needs of an applicant as determined by the scholarship award committee.
Full scholarship awards
This will cover:
- tuition fees and other charges waiver;
- monthly stipend;
- hostel accommodation; and
- research grants (e.g., fieldwork, data analysis, etc.)
The following two items apply to international (African) students only:
- one round-trip flight ticket; and
- international travel insurance cover.
Partial scholarship awards
This will cover:
- tuition fees and other charges waiver;
- hostel accommodation; and
- research grants (e.g., fieldwork, data analysis, etc.)
The following two items apply to international (African) students only:

- international travel insurance cover.
Tuition waiver scholarship award
This will cover:
- tuition fees and other charges waiver; and
- research grants (e.g., fieldwork, data analysis, etc.)
Requirements for award of scholarships:
In conformity with the entry requirement at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, successful candidates must be in possession of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with first-class or second-class (upper division) honours in Business Administration, Economics, and Social Sciences.
Applicants should, however, note that preference will be given to students with first-class honours.
- For applicants whose bachelor’s degree is not provided in English, possession of an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language (i.e., TOEFL or IELTS) with an above-average score is required.
Additional requirements: All successful applicants will be required to:
- demonstrate the economic need for which reason they should be supported financially to enrol in the Master of Science programme at KNUST;
- hold citizenship in Ghana or another African country. Non-Ghanaian African applicants must demonstrate possession of a student visa to legally study at KNUST;
- complete and submit the Scholarship Application form;
- complete and submit the economic needs assessment form; and
- commit to full-time availability for the entire period of study.

- Curriculum vitae (two pages maximum)
- Two reference letters
- Proof of English proficiency (only for applicants whose Bachelor’s degree was not in English)
- Official transcripts for bachelor’s degree
- Certified copies of the official bachelor’s degree certificate
- Soft and hard copies of a letter of motivation (max. one page) with the heading “O.R. Tambo Scholarship Award” outlining the following:
- Why you want to research entrepreneurship and employment problems
- Why you think you are capable of researching entrepreneurship and employment problems
- Why you need financial support to be able to successfully complete the Master’s degree programme.
- How your admission into this programme will fit into your professional vision
- How your community stands to benefit after your training on this programme
- You may also add other relevant information and/or experience you feel are necessary to support your application.

- Ineligible, incomplete, or late applications will not be processed.
- Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview session on a date and venue to be announced.
