Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) undergraduate and postgraduate admission exercise for the 2024/2025 academic session.

A. FACULTY OF JOURNALISM AND MEDIA STUDIES

B. A. IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES [JOURNALISM OPTION] i. Regular

B. FACULTY OF PUBLIC RELATIONS, ADVERTISING & MARKETING

B. A. IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES [PUBLIC RELATIONS OPTION]
i. Regular
ii. Top-Up Weekend Session (Lectures are on Saturdays & Sundays, 7.00 am – 8.00 pm)

C. FACULTY OF INTEGRATED COMMUNICATIONS

DIPLOMA IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES
i. Regular
ii. Evening Session (Lectures start from 4.00 pm – 8.00 pm)
iii. Weekend Session (Lectures are on Saturdays & Sundays, 7.00 am – 8.00 pm)

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

B. A. IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES

SSSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English, Mathematics, and three (3) elective subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better.

WASSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess passes(A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English, Mathematics, and three (3) elective subjects with an overall aggregate of 36 or better

GCE ADVANCED LEVEL HOLDERS

Applicants must possess a General Certificate of Examinations (GCE) ‘A’ Level Grade E or better in three (3) subjects, at least, one of which should be Grade D or better Credit passes i.e. Grade 6 or better in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level (‘O” Level) subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject, for non-science students.

DIPLOMA IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES

REGULAR, EVENING & WEEKEND SESSIONS

SSSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess six (6) passes (A-D) in all subjects, including English and Mathematics. For areas of specialisation, three (3) of the passes must be in relevant subjects.

WASSCE HOLDERS

Applicants must possess six (6) passes (A1-C6) in all subjects, including English and Mathematics and must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialisation.

MATURE STUDENTS (Who can apply?)

Persons wishing to enter the Ghana Institute of Journalism as Mature Students must be at least 25 years old and show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application

Applicants will be considered for admission on passing a special entrance examination conducted by the Institute and an interview.

NOTE:

Applicants will be selected based on a competitive cut-off point for the year.
Candidates awaiting results are eligible to apply.

COST OF GIJ APPLICATION FORMS

Ghanaian Applicants

  • Diploma – GH¢200.00
  • Degree – GH¢250.00
  • Mature (Tutorial & Examination) – GH¢650.00

International Applicants

  • Diploma & Degree – USD$100.00

HOW TO APPLY FOR GHANA INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISM

1. Online Application:

  • Pay your application fee at any Fidelity Bank Branch by providing your name (as will appear on your application) and telephone number.
  • You will be provided with your application number at the bank.
  • Go to http://registration.gij.edu.gh/apply/start to begin and complete your application online.
  • Note: you will need a valid email address to complete the online application.
  • Once the process has been completed, applicants must print out and keep a copy of the completed application form for the verification process.

Application Closing Date

  • Level 300 Top-Up Admissions: Monday, 31st October 2022
  • Mature Entrance Admissions: Friday, 30th August 2022
  • WASSCE Applicants: Saturday, 31st December 2022

Please according to a research I did earlier applicants whose qualifications do not meet the requirements for admission may be cosidered fir admission on passing a special entrance examination conducted by the university and an interview.Does this still hold because I fall under this category.I had d7 in both maths and science but had a total aggregate of 22.Please I’ll be expecting an answer.Thank you.
