College of Education Teachers Declare Indefinite Strike Over Allowances

College of Education Tutors have declared an indefinite strike action starting October 29,2018 due to the failure to reach an agreement with the government on the payment of their Interim Market Premium as well as Book and Research allowance after three months of negotiations.

According to a statement issued by the Leadership of the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG),on October 29,2018 ,after an emergency meeting in Kumasi,the union explained that its highest decision making body has revolved to embark on an indefinite  strike action with immediate effect in all forty -six public Colleges of Education.

“At an emergency National Council meeting of Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) in Kumasi on Monday, 29 October 2018, the highest decision-making body of association resolved to embark on an indefinite strike action with immediate effect in all the forty-six public colleges of education.

The Association emphasized, that their decision was due to the failure of government to reach an agreement on an interim Market Premium as well as their Book and Research Allowances after three months of negotiations.

“This follows the failure to reach an agreement with the government on Interim Market Premium as well as Book and Research allowance for members of CETAG after three months of negotiations.”
