Universities in Australia that Accept WASSCE Results
Importantly, note that most of these universities will only accept this result when you provide your score of English Proficiency with TOEFL or IELTS for admission.
That being said, below is the list of Australia universities that accept WASSCE, WAEC, GCE, and SSCE results from applicants from West Africa.
Macquarie University
Macquarie University is located in the heart of Australia’s largest high-tech precinct, Macquarie’s park-like campus brings together 40,000 students, many of them from all corners of the world.
West African students from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia who wishes to study abroad with WAEC, GCE or NECO can apply for admission at Macquarie University.
English requirements (equal to IELTS 6.5) are needed for Macquarie programs.
To be eligible to apply for an undergraduate program, you must have one of the following:
- A recognised secondary (high school) qualification (WAEC, WASSCE, GCE and NECO)
- A recognised university foundation course
- At least one year of a university degree from a recognised institution
- A recognised two- or three-year diploma
University of Adelaide
Apart from the academic requirement, the University of Adelaide also prefers an accredited English language test such as IELTS and TOEFL.
However, the University may accept other evidence of proficiency in English in individual cases. The majority of language tests and qualifications that meet the University’s minimum English requirements have a validity of two years preceding the date of application.

University of Queensland
The University of Queensland accepts students with GCE, WASSCE or WAEC result. However, you need to meet the minimum entry requirements for an undergraduate program at UQ.
Other requirements to study at the University of Queensland include
- complete Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent qualification)
- achieve the program’s minimum entry score
- satisfy the program’s subject prerequisites (if applicable)
- meet the program’s English language proficiency (ELP) requirements
- successfully complete any program-specific application requirements.
Bond University
Bond University has a distinguished reputation as Australia’s first private, not-for-profit University.
The University accepts WASSCE and WAEC result from Ghanaian and Nigerian students. The minimum requirement is a Grade of C6 or better from the West African Education Council (WAEC) or West African Senior School Certificate of Education (WASSCE).
Applicants who have completed schooling in Ghana and Nigeria must have graduated high school within 24 months of commencing their program of study.
Also, students need to take the recommended English Language test such as IELTS (Academic), TOEFL iBT, C1 Advanced and Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE).
Please note that approved English language test results must be no older than 24 months when the applicant commences their program.
University of Southern Queensland
The University of Southern Queensland is one of the universities in Australia that accepts WAEC and WASSCE result from students from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and the Gambia.
Students must possess a grade of C (or better) in the subject English language in their WAEC result.
