Depending on the purpose of your travel to China, there are different types of visas that will apply to the occasion. Whether you are planning to go on a visit, study or work and reside in China permanently, you will have to apply for a different Chinese Visa, accordingly.

Type of Chinese Visa – China Visa Application

The categories express the different types of purposes for traveling to China. Although there are 16 of them, five are available to Ghana.

China F Visa (Business Visa)

The Chinese F Visa is issued to individuals who intend to go to China for business reasons.

China L Visa (Visitors Visa)

The Chinese L Visa is issued to tourist and for people who want to visit relatives in China.

China X Visa (Student Visa)

The Chinese X visa is categorized into tow (2) types.

  • X1 (Long-term study visa) – The Chinese X1 student visa is issued to individuals who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days.
  • X2 (Short-term study visa)  – The Chinese X2 student visa is issued to individuals who want to study in China for less than 180 days.

China Z Visa (Employment and Work Visa)

The Chinese Z visa is issued to individuals who intend to work in China. Such individual must have secured employment in China before applying for the Z visa.

General Requirements for China Visa Application

China Business Visa (F) | China Visa Application in Ghana

  • Original Visa Notice issued by an authorized unit in China (Local Government in China) or original invitation letter from company in China.
  • Flight and hotel itinerary.
  • Photocopy and original of business registration certificate and tax clearance or IRS.
  • Introductory letter from company
  • Photocopy and original passport valid for more than six (6) months and must have at least two (2) pages for visa purposes.
  • Proof of economic guarantee (such as personal bank account statement or pay slips from employer current for at least four months) both original and photocopy.
  • Completed visa application form with one white background passport size picture.

China Visitors Visa (Tourism) L | China Visa Application in Ghana

  • Original invitation letter from company or travel bureau in China.
  • Flight and hotel itinerary
  • Proof of economic guarantee (such as personal bank account statement or pay slips from employer current for at least four months) both original and photocopy.
  • Photocopy and original passport valid for more than six (6) months and must have at least two (2) pages for visa purposes.
  • Introductory letter from employer.
  • Completed visa application form with one white background passport size picture.

China Visitors Visa (Visiting Relatives) L | China Visa Application in Ghana

  • Original invitation from inviter in China (confirmation letter from school if student is the inviter)
  • Photocopy of inviter’s passport and citizenship card (Chinese) and photocopy of passport and resident permit (if inviter is a foreigner in China.
  • Photocopy and original passport valid for more than six months and must have at least two (2) blank pages for visa purposes.
  • Proof of economic guarantee (such as personal bank account statement or pay slips current for at least four months).
  • Completed visa application form with one white background passport size picture.

China Student Visa (X) | China Visa Application in Ghana

  • Fully completed and valid JW202 form (Special Visa Notice for foreign students) from the institution in China. (both original and photocopy)
  • A valid admission letter for students from the institution in China. (both original and photocopy)
  • Physical examination for foreigners with one white background passport size picture.(must be attested at the court)
  • Photocopy and original passport valid for more than six (6) months and must have at least two (2) blank pages for visa purposes.
  • Personal bank account statement of students supporting themselves financially which should be current for at least six (6) months and must be attested at the court.
  • A letter of sponsorship if students are being sponsored financially, a photocopy of either sponsor’s passport, voters ID card or driving license, photocopy and original of sponsor’s bank statement current for at least six (6) months and attested at the court.
  • Original and photocopy of previous school certificate
  • A completed visa application form with one white background passport size picture.

China Employment Visa (Z) | China Visa Application in Ghana

  • Original Visa Notice from an authorized unit in China (from the Local Government in China)
  • Employment permit issued by relevant bureau in China
  • Physical examination record for foreigners.
  • Photocopy and original passport valid for more than six (6) months and must have at least two (2) blank pages for visa purposes.
  • A completed visa application form with one white background passport picture.

NOTE: The above requirement is also applicable to people applying for Hong Kong and Macau visas in Ghana. The Chinese Embassy in Accra attends also to all visa applications for Hong Kong and Macau SAR.

How to Apply for China Visa in Ghana

  • Download the China Visa application form online (Click Here to download).
  • Fill the form accurately with sincerity.
  • Pay the necessary visa application fee (see below).
  • Submit at the Chinese Embassy in Accra, Ghana.
  • Book an appointment with the Embassy.
  • On the day of your interview, go along with all your documents.

Please Note the Following;

1. Visa applicants providing forged documents or fake information will be denied and put on record. Visa applicants with suspected purpose or insufficient documents will be denied. No specific reasons shall be given. All the documents have to be submitted in original together with a full set of good quality photocopies.

2. China Visa processing takes 5 working days.

3. The working hours to receive the submission for Chinese visa are from 8:30-12:00 on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

4. The working hours for collection of Chinese visa are from 15:00-17:00 on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

5. All Visa fee will be paid to Standard Chartered Bank by applicant. Applicant must take the payment receipt for collection.

6. No refund of visa fee for denied visa applications.

7. Proof of having sufficient financial support to cover his /her expenses in China shall be shown to the visa officer in this embassy and to the immigration while entering China in the form of travelers cheques. Those who fail to do so shall be denied of entry at the immigration.

8. Employment and student visa holders must register themselves with the local Public Security Bureau within 30 days of entry.

9. Activities not in conformity with the visa type are prohibited.

10. Overstaying will constitute a violation of Chinese law. Prior permission must be obtained for stay extension.

China Visa Fee in Ghana

Applicants for China visa with Ghanaian Passport.

  1. Single Entry:  if you are applying for a visa with a single entry (this means the visa can only allow you to enter into China once), the cost is USD50. The single entry visa is usually valid for only three (3) months.
  2. Double Entry:  For a double entry visa that allows you to enter into China two different times within the validity period, the cost USD75. This form of visa is valid for six (6) months.
  3. Multiple entry visa: multiple entries visa to China with a validity of six (6) months cost USD100 while a multiple visa with a validity of twelve (12) months cost USD150.

Non-Ghanaian Passport

Applicants for China visa with Ghanaian Passport.

  1. Single Entry:  if you are applying for a visa with a single entry, the cost is USD35. The single entry visa is usually valid for only three (3) months.
  2. Double Entry:  For a double entry visa that allows you to enter into China two different times within the validity period, the cost USD50. This form of visa is valid for six (6) months.
  3. Multiple entry visa: multiple entries visa to China with a validity of six (6) months cost USD65 while a multiple visa with a validity of twelve (12) months cost USD100.

Hong Kong & Macau SAR Visa Fee

Applicants who are applying for Hong Kong and Macau SAR visa at the Chinese Embassy.

  1. Single Entry:  if you are applying for a visa with a single entry the cost is $30. The single entry visa is usually valid for only three (3) months.
  2. Double Entry:  For a double entry visa that allows you to enter into either Hong Kong or Macau SAR two different times within the validity period, the cost $30. This form of visa is valid for six (6) months.
  3. Multiple entry visa: multiple entries visa to Hong Kong or Macau with a validity of 6-12 months cost $30.

China Visa Express Fee (U.S.Dollars)

Applicants who need China visa express service will have to pay the following amount;

  • China Visa express fee for 1-2 day service is $40
  • China Visa express fee for 3-day service is $25
