UMaT Arrangements for Completion of 2019/2020 Academic Year

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) has released the arrangements for the completion of the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year for final year students.

This is to inform the University Community that the Executive Committee, at its 52^nd (Emergency) Meeting held on Tuesday, 2^nd June, 2020, to consider the Presidential directive on the re-opening of Universities for final year students decided as follows:

1. The University shall re-open on Monday, 15^th June, 2020 to Final Year Students ONLY.
2. Resident Students would be given access to the Halls of residence from Monday, 15^th June, 2020.
3. To safeguard the health and safety of the University community, the Security Unit will ensure that all final year students entering Campus will be in their nose masks. The policy is: No Mask, No Entry.
4. Students shall report to the UMaT Clinic upon arrival, for screening from Monday, 15^th June to Wednesday, 17^th June, 2020.
5. Students will be given chits at the Clinic signed by the Principal Physician Assistant. Students should make copies of the chits and submit the original to their Heads of Department. The other copies will be used to access examination rooms.
6. No student will be allowed to receive visitors while on Campus.
7. The Security Unit shall ensure that there shall be no mass gatherings on Campus, i.e. church services/meetings, association meetings, or any form of gathering of students apart from lectures.
8. Temperatures of students will be checked at all times before they enter classrooms and the Library.
9. Persons found to have high temperatures will be referred to the UMaT Clinic immediately.
10. Students will be required to wash their hands after their temperatures have been taken before they will be allowed entry into the classroom.
11. All Lecturers and students shall wear their nose masks at all times, both in class and out of class.
12. There shall be Social Distancing at all lecture rooms.
13. The University campus will continue to remain closed to students who are not in their final year.
14. The Government of Ghana is planning to make the necessary arrangements to fly all final year international students who are out of the country to come and write their terminal exams on condition that their countries will allow them to leave.
15. All international students who would return through this arrangement will go through the mandatory 14 days’ quarantine. Such students are to provide their particulars including Passport number, Name of country of residence, photocopy of passport and telephone number to the President of the International Students Association.

Management wishes to assure students, parents, guardians and the general public that the safety of all members of the community is our utmost priority.

Meanwhile, members of the University community are advised to take the necessary precautionary measures outlined in University notices and information on COVID-19. We ask for the co-operation of all in these moments.
