University of Ghana Information for Fresh Regular International Students 2019/2020

The University of Ghana (UG) Legon information for fresh regular international undergraduate students for the 2019/2020 academic year has been released.

The information contains the arrival date, payment procedures for international students, accommodation, orientation and registration procedures for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Contents

Arrival

All fresh international undergraduate students are expected to arrive between August 21 and September 27, 2019

Airport pick up service will be provided by the International Programmes Office for international students during the stipulated dates.

For this service, kindly send flight details to [email protected] before August 18, 2019.

The Hostels will only be opened to students from August 21, 2019. Students should therefore plan to arrive from this date. Students who arrive after September 27 may flag down an airport cab (taxi) located close to the Arrivals’ Hall, to convey them to their respective destinations. (Kindly note the cab registration number).

Taxis can be identified usually by their amber coloured license plate. Students should kindly note that, the taxi fare could be between thirty and forty Ghana Cedis (GHC30 – GHC40).

Payment of Fees

Fees must be paid in US dollars. This may be done online, by wire or by direct deposit as outlined below. Should you choose to make payment by wire or direct deposit, kindly ensure that your name and student ID number are clearly written on the pay-in-slip. Your pay-in-slip will be required for registration.

Accommodation

Housing will be provided at the International Students’ Hostel (ISH) until all beds are allocated.

Rooms are furnished with beds, mattresses, desks, chairs and wardrobes. Students are required to provide for themselves linen, pillows and other bedding and essential room items.

Orientation

International Programmes Office shall organize MANDATORY mini orientation sessions for fresh international students daily from August 21 to September 3, 2019 (9:30 am – 3:00pm) at the Seminar room (Ground Floor, Right Wing) of the International House located on the Annie Jiagge Road, opposite the School of Law.

The university’s main orientation for all fresh students starts from Wednesday, August 28 to Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the Great Hall. Note that this is also mandatory for all fresh students.

Registration

Students are to report for registration at the International Programmes Office from August 21 to September 27,  2019 (9:00am – 3:00pm daily)with the following:

➢      Copy of admission letter

➢        Proof of payment of fees or wire transfer details

➢       One passport sized photograph

Teaching / Examination

Teaching begins on September 2, 2019. Examinations shall start on December 9 and end on December 20, 2019.

Matriculation

Students are expected to attend a mandatory matriculation on September 28, 2019.

Welcome Durbar

The office will organize a welcome durbar for all fresh international students on October 5, 2019.

Deans Lunch

The Dean of International Programmes will organize a welcome lunch for all fresh international students.

Resident Permit and Non- Citizen Ghana Card

Please note that all eligible foreign nationals living in Ghana are required by law to register and have a Non-Citizen Card.

The Non-Citizen Card is a national identity card for internationals which costs US$120. It is a legal requirement to have a Residence Permit. Please ensure you get this from the National Identification Authority Offices as soon as you arrive in Ghana. For more information please visit: http://www.fims.org.gh/m/aboutusdoc.

Other Information

Ghana uses the UK’s BS 1363 standard for plugs and sockets. This uses the 3 pin system and has a voltage of 240 volts. Kindly take note of this when bringing any electrical appliances, especially chargers for mobile phones.
