This has been after the Corporation called for postgraduate and undergraduate students to send in applications and upon undergoing the selection process, the eighty (80) students were shortlisted for the scholarship.

Speaking at a short presentation ceremony with the beneficiaries, the Officer in charge of Education and Training at GNPC, Mr Gameli Amengor said the granting of scholarship to students formed part of how Ghana’s oil revenue is being utilized. He added that the Corporation is also constructing a science laboratory for UENR, building hospitals and constructing boreholes among others for needy communities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities.

Mr Amengor further indicated that the number of beneficiaries from UENR under the scholarship scheme has seen an exponential increase over the years. He urged the students to study hard in order not to waste the opportunity given to them.

The Registrar, Mr Solomon Panford in his remarks noted that tertiary education funding is a contemporary challenge. He commended GNPC for intervening to support students in their education and admonished the students to take their studies seriously.

The Dean of Students, Dr Dominic Otoo on his part encouraged the beneficiaries especially the first-year students to work hard to meet the code of conducts of the scholarship. “you are blessed to be chosen out of the many applicants in need of financial support, if all you need to study in terms of food and books are being taken care of, then you have no excuse not to learn” he added.

The conditions of the scholarship were read and award letters were presented to the beneficiaries.
