What is TOEFL?

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test is a standardized test that evaluates the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enrol in English-speaking universities.

The test is administered in an internet-based format and is an important part of your journey to study in an English-speaking country. Many academic and professional institutions across the world accept this test. TOEFL is also one of the two major English-language tests in the world, the other being IELTS.

The TOEFL is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) which is a private non-profit organization. ETS issues official score reports, sent independently to institutions, for two years following the test.

The TOEFL test consists of two formats. The format you take depends on the location of your test center. Most test takers take the Internet-based Test (iBT). Test centers that do not have Internet access offer the Paper-based Test (PBT).
