National Teaching Council Recruitment for Teacher Portfolio Assessors

The National Teaching Council seeks to recruit Regional and District-level Teacher Portfolio Assessors

Regional Assessors

Regional Assessors visit Districts to carry out the quality verification of Newly Qualified Teachers’ (NQTs) portfolios which are initially assessed/evaluated by the mentors/lead mentors at the schools and moderated by the District-level Assessors.

The Regional Assessor will verify the District Assessors’ evaluations of NQTs’ portfolios in line with the agreed evaluation criteria and National Teaching Councils’ Teachers’ Standards. Each Regional Assessor will verify an assigned number of District samples.

QUALIFICATIONS

Prospective applicants must:

● Possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Education or equivalent from a recognised institution

● Be a qualified teacher

● Have a minimum of 10 years Senior Tutor experience from College of Education or a minimum of 6 years as Senior Lecturer experience in education-related courses from the University or

● demonstrate at least 3 years of GES Deputy Director role experience

● demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of mentorship role experience i.e. career mentorship/coaching

● have assessment experience (at least WAEC Team Leader/examiner with 5 years’ experience or 10 years of Team Leader for teacher education qualification examinations e.g. Post Sec Cert., Diploma in Basic Education, B.Ed. Primary Education)

● possess relevant skill-set to train others with a minimum of 15 years in-service training for teachers or leading/facilitating training in similar capacity

● demonstrate knowledge of, and experience in the National Teachers’ Standards and Pre-Tertiary Education Curriculum and Curriculum Framework.

● Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in delivering and assessing vocational qualifications such as City and Guilds, NVTI Qualifications and COTVET Qualifications.

DISTRICT LEVEL ASSESSORS

District Level Assessors visit schools to carry out the moderation of Newly Qualified Teachers’ (NQTs) portfolio which is initially assessed/evaluated by the mentor/lead mentor at the center/schools.

The District Level Assessor will moderate the school/Centre’s evaluation of NQTs’ portfolio in line with the agreed evaluation criteria and National Teaching Councils’ Teachers’ Standards. Each District Level Assessor will moderate an assigned number of Portfolios from schools in the District.

Qualification

Prospective applicants must:

● Possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent from a recognised institution. A master’s degree is an added advantage

● Be a qualified teacher

● Have a minimum of 5 years Senior Tutor experience from College of Education or a minimum of 4 years as Senior Lecturer experience in education related courses from the University or

● demonstrate at least 3 years of GES Deputy Director role experience

● demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of mentorship role experience i.e. career mentorship/coaching
