About Ghana National Fire Service, GNFS

The primary aim of the Ghana National Fire Service at its established in 1963 by Act 219 was firefighting and extinguishment, and to render humanitarian services. Subsequently, in 1997 the Ghana National Fire Service Act (Act 537) was enacted to re-establish the Ghana National Fire Service with the objective of prevention and management of undesired fires and other related matters with an expanded mandate. The purpose of Act 537 was to expand the functions of the GNFS taking into cognizance modern trends in the Fire Services all over the world; from fire intervention to fire prevention and safety.

The Ghana National Fire Service has opened enlistment/recruitment opportunities for eligible Ghanaian Citizens interested in Saving Lives and Property from the ravages of disaster.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth
  • Be with no criminal record and of good character
  • Not have been dismissed by any public service or any other employment.
  • Be of a minimum age of 18 years and not more than 35 years for Officer Corps by 1st November, 2025.
  • Be of a minimum age of 18 years and not more than 32 years for Non-Tradesmen by 1st November, 2025.
  • Be of a minimum age of 18 years and not more than 35 years for Tradesmen/artisans by 1st November, 2025.
  • Be physically and medically fit by Fire Service standards.
  • Be of a minimum height of 1.73 meters (5ft 8inch) for Males and 1.63 meters (5ft 4inch) for Females.
  • Have five (5) credit (not less than Grade 6) at BECE
  • Be not bonded by any organization.
  • Have five (5) passess (Up to Grade C6 including English and Mathematics) at WASSCE/SSSCE or the requisite credit/passes in respective trade qualifications from GES Intermediate or Advance Level.
  • Must possess a first Degree from an accredited University not below second class lower division.
  • Must be of good character.
  • Must not be bonded by any organisation.

A. ORDAINED MINISTER OF CHAPLAIN

Have at least a first degree in Theology. Be of good standing in a Christian denomination approved by any of the following bodies; the Ghana Catholic Secretariat, the Christian Council of Ghana, the Pentecostal Council of Ghana or other recognized Christian bodies.

B. IMAM

  1. Have at least a first degree in Islamic Studies with an excellent knowledge in Arabic.
  2. Be of good standing in a Muslim denomination approved by any of the following bodies, the office of the National/Regional Chief Imam, the office of the Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission or other similar nationally recognized Muslim bodies.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR 2025 RECRUITS (NON-TRADESMEN)

A. GENERAL DUTIES

1. Firefighters and Rescue Crew; In addition to satisfying requirements 1 (a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j, and k) in general eligibility, applicants must have the following:

  • Five (5) passess in SSCE/WASSCE including English Language and Mathematics
  • Four (4) credits in the Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Level Certificate, and a pass in English and Mathematics or ‘A’ Level or ‘O’ Level with credit in English.

B. ACCOUNTING OFFICERS

In addition to satisfying requirements 1 (a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j, and k) in general eligibility, applicants must have the following:

  • Six (6) passess including English and Mathematics at WASSCE with Accounting ir Business options
  • RSA Stage III in Accounting
  • Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting Option)
  • HND Accounting

C. MEDICAL AND ALLIED SCIENCES

In addition to satisfying requirements 1 (a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j, and k) in general eligibility, applicants must have any of the following with at least one (1) year working experience in a recognized health facility.

1. General Nurses

  • 3 Year Diploma in Nursing (Registered General Nursing/Registered Mental Nursing/Registered Community Health Nursing/Emergency Nursing) and must have completed the mandatory rotation. Must have registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

2. Midwives

  • Diploma in Midwifery (Registered Midwifery) and must have completed the mandatory rotation.

3. Pharmacy Technicians

  • HND / 3 year Diploma in Dispensing Technology must have completed the mandatory national service.

4. Technical Officers (Dental Surgery Assistant / Technology)

  • 3 year Diploma in Dental Surgery option and must have completed the mandatory national service
  • 3 year Diploma in Dental Technology option and must have completed the mandatory national service.

5. Technical Officers (Radiology)

  • 3 year Diploma in Radiology Technology and must have completed the mandatory national service.

6. Technical officers (Nutrition)

  • 3 year Diploma in Public Health (Nutrition) of Food Health & Nutrition and must have completed the mandatory national service.

7. Technical Officers (Health Promotion)

  • 3 year Diploma in Public Health (Health Promotion) and must have completed the mandatory national service.

8. Technical Officers (Disease Control and Surveillance)

  • 3 year Diploma in Public Health (Disease Control) and must have completed the mandatory national service.

9. Technical Officers (Medical Laboratory)

  • 3 year Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and must have completed the mandatory national service.

10. Technical Officers (Physiotherapy)

  • 3 year Diploma in Physiotherapy and must have completed the mandatory national service.

11. Technical Officers (health Information Systems)

  • 3 year Diploma in Public Health (Informatics/Information systems) and must have completed the mandatory national service.

12. Technical Officers (Biostatistics)

  • 3 year Diploma in Health Statistics and must have completed the mandatory national service.

13. Psychiatry/Mental Nurses

  • 3 year Diploma in Mental Nursing (Registered Mental Nursing from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

14. Technical Officers (Optical)

  • 3 year Diploma in Optical Technology from an accredited institution of higher learning.

15. Nurse Assistants Clinical

  • Certificate in Nursing (Preventive Nurse Assistant Clinical) from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

16. Medical Laboratory Assistants

  • Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution of higher learning plus one year mandatory national service

17. Biomedical Technician

  • CTVET/GES Diploma in Biomedical and Electro Medical Engineering
  • CTVET/GES Radio, TV, and Electronics Part I.
  • CTVET/NABTEX Certificate II in Electronics Engineering.

D. CATERING HOSPITALITY

In addition to satisfying requirements 1 (a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j, and k) in general eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:

  • HND / 3 year Diploma in Hotel Tourism and Hospitality Management plus one year mandatory national service.
  • GES (COTVET) Certificate II in Hospitality and Catering Management.
  • GES Intermediate Certificate in Food and Beverage Service.

E. RECORDS AND ARCHIVES

In addition to satisfying requirements 1 (a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j, and k) in general eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:
