The West African Examination Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is an examination that is administered by the West African Examination Council (WAEC). The examination is administered yearly. It is open to candidates from Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.

The WAEC examination is open to both private and school candidates. So, this leads us to the question of the day, “which universities in China accept WAEC result?”.

Most universities in China accepts WAEC results from West African students. However, you need to meet their minimum requirements before you’re offered admission to a Chinese university.

Before applying to study in China, there are some requirements that must be fulfiled for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Requirements of China’s Universities

Depending on the level of your education, Chinese universities have different requirements for all programmes. So, before applying, you need to carefully review these requirements.

International students can either enrol for a Chinese-Medium degree course or an English-medium course.

For the Chinese-medium degree courses (i.e. degree courses taught in Mandarin Chinese) require the applicant to provide HSK examination results to prove their Chinese language proficiency. Applicants for master’s degrees also need to provide a copy of transcripts and recommendation letters.

For the English-medium courses, applicants do not require HSK results. Instead, applicants for English-medium courses should provide recognized English proficiency tests such as TOEFL or IELTS. (English native speakers or those who hold an academic degree taught in English need not provide test scores).

More and more universities are starting to offer international programs taught in English. These programs will no longer require HSK examination results and are suitable for international applicants.
