Job Title: Senior Mine Planning Engineer

PURPOSE
Employees in this classification are responsible for developing strategic, short, medium and long term mine planning and mine design, manage the tactical execution of the plan and schedule, aiming for continuous improvement to the mine plan and must comply with state and federal safety and health regulations, company policies and procedures and best practice.

Duties

  • Open-pit optimization, design of pits, waste dumps, haul roads and other project designs.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that corporate requirements are adhered to.
  • Review on a regular basis the Life of Mine (LOM) defining mining strategies to ensure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved.
  • Liaise with consultants and supervise other engineers in the development and execution of Group projects of strategic importance.
  • Manage geotechnical engineering programmes to ensure optimal pit wall designs and appropriate factors of safety are implemented.
  • Generate financial and mine plan schedules for the preparation of mining department budget.
  • Ensure safety, Health and Environmental Standards are adhered to and maintained by all.
  • Demonstrate high-level communication with all departments and commitment to continuously improve current procedures.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Mine Manager.

Requirements

COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in the use of Gemcom/Surpac and other mining software packages – Mineshed, Whittle.
  • Practical knowledge in the use of spreadsheet and database software packages.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND/REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Ten (10) years of relevant experience in the mining industry in the open pit operations.
  • Experience in open Pit Optimizations, Pit Designing and production schedule.
