New teams, league heavyweights and an exciting title race awaits
The build-up to Ghana’s top-flight football league action is underway following the official release of the 18 teams competing for supremacy in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. Defending champions Medeama SC will aim to fend off competition from hungry rivals looking to regain past success, as well as three newly promoted sides who will hope to cause an upset, as the GFA confirms clubs set to feature in next season.
The league will begin next season between September 4–7, 2026, concluding on May 28–31, 2027. Matchday action will continue to take place on the weekend, whilst midweek games will be used to spread outstanding fixtures.
Three Debutants Prepare for the Biggest Challenge of Their History
Among those teams contesting next season is a trio of newly promoted sides who will experience Premier League football for the first time in their history. Led by Division One League Zone Three champions Port City, all three newcomers will look to enjoy their maiden campaign in Africa’s most gifted domestic league.
As champions of Zone Two, Ashanti Gold ’04 will hope to make an instant impression, whilst Debibi United secured promotion through the Division One playoffs to earn a maiden spot in Ghana’s top-flight league. Premier League experience is sure to take some getting used to for the promoted sides. However, should they prove competitive this season, they won’t be the first Ghana Premier League newcomers to surprise.
Medeama Target Back-to-Back Glory

The Road to the Title Begins Now
Leaving behind the drama of the previous campaign, this season brings change to the Ghana Premier League following the confirmation of three new teams for next season. Nations FC and Eleven Wonders were relegated from the Ghana Premier League at the end of the 20/21 season, whilst Hohoe United elected to withdraw from the league. Their spots were replaced by the triumphant Port City, AshantiGold ’04 and Debibi United, who booked their place in the Premier League via the Promotion/Relegation Playoff.
As is the case with every season, all 18 teams will go into the opening weekend of the season on equal points. Forming a solid foundation from the outset can prove pivotal for teams throughout the campaign.
