Meet the Overall Best Graduating Graduate Student from UPSA’s Class of 2020

For Vincentia Fosuaa, winning the Best Graduating Graduate Student prize at the 2020 Congregation ceremony was never part of her dreams when she enrolled in the MBA in Accounting and Finance programme at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) two years ago.

Vincentia, a proud product of the Wesley Girls High School in Kumasi, said she was surprised when she saw her name listed in the event’s brochure of the 12th Congregation of the University as the best graduating graduate student in the 2020 graduating class.

Vincentia emerged the topmost student at the Fourth Session of the 12th Congregation Ceremony held on Saturday, graduating with a Final Cumulative Grade Point Average (FCGPA) of 3.83 amidst cheers and commendations from her colleagues.

The bubbly young lady who aspires to become one of Ghana’s top entrepreneurs recounted how she landed at the ‘professional university.’

“After pursuing a professional qualification programme with the ICAG in 2017, I needed a top-notch business school to do my master’s,” she said. “And UPSA was the first institution that came to mind.”

She further explained that she opted to have her graduate education at UPSA because she believed the professional university was one of the best institutions of higher learning in the world due to its recent ratings on global universities rankings.

Narrating her patchy journey to the top, the chartered accountant revealed how cumbersome it was for her combining academic work with her career.

“It hasn’t been easy,” she said.

The visibly happy Vincentia said her hard work had paid off saying “I always work hard and try my possible best to always learn, no matter how tired I feel after work.”

On her philosophy of life, Vincentia says with continuous learning and hard work, one is capable of achieving anything they set their eyes on. “Personally, I don’t believe anybody was born with exceptional academic capabilities but if you learn you will know,” she said.

Her advice to young students is that learning is a process and not an event so it is imperative they keep learning and eschew any excuses for hard work.

Vincentia, until her graduate education, studied and majored in Psychology at the undergraduate level at the University of Ghana in 2012 where she obtained a First Class Honours degree.

Having worked for some time, she decided to pursue a professional qualification programme with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) and became a chartered accountant in 2017.

Vincentia currently works with the Finance Directorate of the University of Ghana as a Principal Accounting Assistant.
