The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of the thirteen Ghanaian national public universities. It was founded in 1948, in the British colony of the Gold Coast, as the University College of the Gold Coast, and was originally an affiliated college of the University of London, which supervised its academic programs and awarded degrees. After independence in 1957, the college was renamed the University College of Ghana. It changed its name again to the University of Ghana in 1961 when it gained full university status. The University of Ghana is situated on the West view of the Accra Legon hills and at the northeast of the center of Accra, now has various schools, institutions, colleges, and departments and has over 40,000 registered students.

Job Description
The University of Ghana hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the senior-level administrative positions in the College of Health Sciences listed below, to take effect from 1st August 2023.
COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES
Objectives of the College: The College shall advance the objectives of each of its constituent Units by these specific objectives,:
• Promote health through education, research, and service;
• Provide promotive, preventive, and curative services to meet the health needs of the nation and the global community through world-class excellence in teaching, research, and dissemination of knowledge;
• Produce highly qualified and competent health professionals and medical scientists; and,
• Promote the development of sustainable health programs.
POSITION 1: Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery
REPORTING TO: Provost, College of Health Sciences
The School of Nursing and Midwifery has the following Departments:
• Adult Health
• Community Health Nursing
• Maternal and Child Health
• Mental Health
• Education, Research, and Administration
POSITION 2: Dean, University of Ghana Dental School
REPORTING TO: Provost, College of Health Sciences
The University of Ghana Dental School has the following Departments:
• Biomaterial Sciences
• Oral Biology
• Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
• Oral Pathology and Medicine
• Orthodontics and Paedodontics
• Preventive and Community Dentistry
• Restorative Dentistry
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
The successful candidate for each position must:
• Be of professorial rank from an academic/research institution or a person from the industry eligible for that position;
• Be capable of providing academic leadership, especially in the area of teaching, research, and extension in the relevant disciplines;
• Provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School;
• Demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development; and,
• Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School.
DUTIES
• The Dean is responsible for providing leadership to the School and for maintaining and promoting efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board, and the School Management Committee.
• The Dean is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School are duly carried out by members of the School.
• The Dean is also responsible for the general administration of the School in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.
TENURE
The Dean shall hold office for three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board to Council and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.
