UCC Religion Students Association Wins Debate Competition

The UCC Chapter of the Religion Students Association of Ghana (RESAG) has won a debate competition held at the University of Ghana, Legon.

UCC team defeated contestants from the University of Ghana (UG), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Islamic University College (ISUC) to emerge as winners of the competition.  The UCC team comprised Esther Osei Adjei, Sandrina Alexis Erskane, Samuel Kojo Pinkrah, Michael Tetteh, Ishmael Amon Neequaye and Osei Ankomah

For their prize, the UCC team received a trophy and a certificate for each contestant.

Annual Debate

The debate which has now become an annual event on the calendar of the Association was hosted by the UG chapter as part of its 20th Anniversary celebration. Some of the issues discussed for the debate included “Faith and Doctrines of Mission Schools; Relevance of the National Cathedral and Ghana as a Christian Nation”.

Receiving the prizes from the team at a ceremony, the Head, Department of Religion and Human Values, Prof. Samuel Awuah-Nyamekye, commended the contestants for making the Department in particular and the University in general proud. He said the Department would support them to win future competitions noting that “We are extremely excited that most of the students are in level 100 so it means that we have a strong team which we must help to develop their potentials”.

UCC RESAG Wins Football Competition

The President of RESAG-UCC, Mr. Daniel Appiah Gyekye said they also participated and won a football competition as part of the events for the anniversary celebrations. He was grateful to Prof. Awuah-Nyamekye and lecturers in the Department, especially Dr. Kojo Okyere, Dr. Vincent Assanful and Dr. Adam Shaibu who supported them to achieve this great feat. Mr. Gyekye was hopeful that UCC would win the next debate to be hosted by KNUST in 2020.
