5 Reasons You Lose Legon Admission This year
1 – You did not meet the general admission requirement
One possible reason for which you did not get Legon admission this year could be your inability to score at least 6 credit passes in your WASSCE exams.
In order to secure admission into any tertiary institution, applicants must score at least C6 in six subjects – 3 Core subjects and 3 electives.
Your application is most definitely not going to be accepted when you don’t meet this standard.
An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the University of Ghana must have at least credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science related programmes) or Social Studies (for non-Science related programmes) and three elective subjects in Science for applicants applying to Science or Agriculture related disciplines or three elective subjects in General Arts/Business for applicants applying to non-Science related disciplines, with the total aggregate not exceeding 24.
2 – You did not meet the grade requirement for the course/programme you opted for
Aside from the General grade requirement, each of the colleges have their own grade requirement as well. You have may met the General requirement, but do you meet the grade requirement for the course/programme you applied to study?
3 – Your results have been cancelled or withheld by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC)
This is particularly for those who sat for this year’s WASSCE and applied as awaiting students. The University needs your results at a particular time and once it is not available, then there’s practically no way you could have been offered admission.
If any of your subjects were withheld by the West African Examinations Council, that could be the reasons for which you failed to make it to UG’s list.
4 – You made a mistake with your online application
Your inability to complete your online application could be a reason for which you failed to make it to Legon this year.
Perhaps you submitted your application without a passport picture or your educational background.
5 – You were not just lucky
Admission into the University of Ghana is often the university of choice for many Senior High School graduates.
Each year, the number of applicants to the school increases, however, the school is forced to turn down the application of many despite the fact that they qualify to be admitted due to infrastructural and logistical constraints.
Each of the programmes available at the university has a limited number of people it admits.
Although you may have scored the right grades and have met the cut-off point, you compete with fellow applicants opting for the same program.
It is a competition and the space available is very limited.
