The role will be divided into 3 workstreams:
- Impact at scale and innovation
- Work with teams in origins for smooth and effective implementation
- Learning Center
This role will report into the Associate Director Cocoa Life, Operations and will have to work closely with our teams and implementing partners in origins (mainly Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Indonesia) but also with colleagues from procurement and R&D.
Some of the key accountabilities for this role will include (but are not limited to)
WORSTSTREAM 1: Impact at scale and Innovation
- Drive our Cocoa Life community strategy to ensure Community Development Committees, Community Action Plans, Village Saving, and Loans Association are implemented in communities and leveraged for phase-out
- Drive our Cocoa Life productivity strategy to improve our farmer’s outreach and farms rehabilitation (improvement of our ongoing extension strategy – that relies on access to improved planting material and other inputs -, proposing an approach to farm development plan, structure farmers profiling and outreach, agroforestry, access to finance etc)
- Help design and drive our Cocoa Life innovation approach to lead to improved adoption of interventions on farms and in communities
- Develop appropriate models and business case for households’ income diversification
- Support the development of strategic partnerships
WORKSTREAM 2: work with teams in origins for smooth and effective implementation
- Confirm consistent quality of implementation across countries and partners
- Benchmark effectiveness across partners and origins
- Ensure the Cocoa Life principles and timing are respected
WORKSTREAM 3: learning center
- Develop a mechanism to capture learnings from the program in due time
- Facilitate effective best practice and learnings sharing across countries
- Support research around rural development, adoption of practices on farm and climate change/deforestation
Qualifications
- Master degree
- Education in agronomy, rural economy and environment are preferred
- Knowledge of agricultural value chain in West Africa and ideally of cocoa
- 5 years of work experience in a developing country environment on sustainable agriculture of community development (ideally in West Africa)
- Experience in developing, influencing and maintaining a network of relationship across stakeholder groups (internal and external)
- Understanding of full spectrum of production/supply, economic, social, environmental and political issues impacting cocoa or similar value chain
- Experience in working in rural areas
- Proven ability to engage effectively and influence stakeholders from across government, trading, and development
- English and French language are required
