KNUST Wins 2018 Pan-African Universities Debate Championship
The Debate Team of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) made history as they emerged winners of the 2018 Pan-African Universities Debate Championship (PAUDC) held at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Mr. Isaac Boakye Nyamekye and Mr. Erasmus Sebgefia who represented the University, beat off stiff competition from 160 debaters from the 49 top African Universities. They included universities from Botswana, South Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Uganda and hosts Tanzania.
The team proved too strong for their counterparts as they presented intriguing points on the motion: ‘This House Regrets the notion of Pan Africanism’.
KNUST thus becomes the first University in the Sub-Sahara Africa to win this competition.
In individual category awards, the Chief of Staff of KNUST’s Student Representative Council, Mr. Kelly Smith Amankwah put up an outstanding performance to win the Best Judge Award. KNUST also won the awards for the Best Speaker and Second-Best Speaker of the competition.
Congratulations to the award winners for making KNUST and Ghana proud.
