GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
i. Masters Programmes
At the time of application, applicants should possess a BachelorāsĀ Degree or its equivalent from a recognized Institution in theĀ relevant field of study. Preference will be given to applicantsĀ with a FIRST CLASS OR SECOND CLASS.
ii. Ph.D. Programmes
Candidates applying for Doctor of Philosophy degree must haveĀ an MPhil degree or its equivalent from a recognized InstitutionĀ and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability toĀ undertake the proposed programme.
DURATION OF PROGRAMME
Unless otherwise stated,
a. Masters Programmes (Full-Time) are of Two (2) Calendar Years and (Part-Time) Three (3) Calendar Years duration.
b. PhD Programmes (Full-Time) are of Four (4) Calendar YearsĀ and (Part-Time) are of Five (5) Calendar Years duration.

Admission Requirements
A bachelorās degree in Agriculture or related discipline from aĀ recognized university is required for MPhil degree in theĀ Department. Preference is given to applicants with First orĀ Second Class (Upper Division) degrees.
Applicants seeking admission to PhD programmes shouldĀ normally have either an MSc or MPhil degree in the relevantĀ discipline. In addition, all applicants will have to pass an

Admission Requirements
MPhil – A good Bachelorās degree (First Class or Second ClassĀ Upper Division) in Agriculture or related disciplines from KNUST or any recognized University.
Candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) are required to pass an interview.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – Candidates applying for DoctorĀ of Philosophy degree must have a Masterās degree or itsĀ equivalent in the relevant field of study, including Horticulture,Ā Agronomy, Biological/ Environmental Science, PostharvestĀ Technology, Food Science, Biochemistry or related disciplinesĀ from KNUST or any recognized University and shall submitĀ evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake proposed
programme.
Candidates with degrees in Architecture, Planning, Geography,Ā Fine Art, Civil Engineering and Building Technology may alsoĀ be considered for programmes in Landscape Studies only.
4. Department of Agricultural Economics, AgribusinessĀ and Extension
a. MPhil Agricultural Economics
The programme accepts applicants with at least a Bachelor ofĀ Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) Second Class (upperĀ division) or its equivalent in Agriculture, Agricultural
Economics, Economics or other related disciplines from aĀ recognized University. Candidates must pass a selectionĀ interview to be conducted by the Department and
demonstrate their ability to pay the required fees.
b. PhD Agricultural Economics
MSc/MPhil degree in Agriculture or relevant subject areasĀ from a recognized University or Institution of HigherĀ Learning. Candidates must pass a selection interview to be
conducted by the Department and demonstrate their ability toĀ pay required fees. Candidates may be required to takeĀ relevant courses from the MPhil Agricultural EconomicsĀ programme as prescribed by the Departmental Board.
c. MSc Agribusiness Management
The programme accepts first degree holders with a minimumĀ of Second Class (Upper Division) in AgribusinessĀ Management, Business Administration, Agriculture and
relevant subject areas from an approved University orĀ Institution of Higher Learning. Relevant academic,Ā administrative or field experience will be an advantage but
not a prerequisite. Applicants must have a thoroughĀ proficiency in written and spoken English. Candidates mustĀ pass a selection interview to be conducted by the Department
and demonstrate their ability to pay required fees.
d. MPhil Agribusiness Management
The programme accepts first degree holders with a minimumĀ of Second Class (Upper Division) in AgribusinessĀ Management, Agriculture and relevant subject areas from an
approved University or Institution of Higher Learning.Ā Several years of relevant academic, administrative or fieldĀ experience will be an advantage but not a prerequisite.
Applicants must have a thorough proficiency in written andĀ spoken English. Candidates must pass a selection interviewĀ to be conducted by the Department and demonstrate their
ability to pay required fees.
e. PhD Agribusiness Management
The programme accepts MPhil degree holders inĀ Agribusiness Management from KNUST or equivalentĀ qualifications from approved Universities or Institutions ofĀ Higher Learning. Applicants must have proficiency in writtenĀ and spoken English. Candidates must pass a selectionĀ interview to be conducted by the Department andĀ demonstrate their ability to pay the required fees. OtherĀ MSc/MPhil or equivalent degree holders in relevant subject
areas (Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, RuralĀ Development, Economics, Development Planning,Ā Development Studies) from an approved University or

f. MSc/MPhil Agricultural Extension and DevelopmentĀ Communication
The programme accepts first degree holders with a minimumĀ of Second Class (Lower Division) in Agriculture or relevantĀ subject areas (Natural Resources Management, Rural
Development, Development Planning, Development Studies,Ā Environmental Management, Sociology, Psychology) fromĀ an approved University or Institution of Higher Learning.

Joint Programme (18 months in KNUST-Ghana and 6Ā months in ITC, University of Twente (UT)-Netherlands)Ā Ā Applicants should have a Bachelor of Science degree, minimum
Second Class (Lower Division) or equivalent from an accreditedĀ university in a discipline related to the course, preferablyĀ combined with relevant working experience. Candidates mustĀ also attend and pass an interview session in the Department.
Candidates must apply for admission from both institutionsĀ (KNUST and ITC, UT). Applicants seeking admission could alsoĀ apply to the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) forĀ financial support.
c. PhD Wildlife and Range Management
The PhD applicant must hold a Masterās Degree in Wildlife andĀ Range Management, Forestry, Natural Resources ManagementĀ and other related disciplines, preferably combined with relevantĀ working experience. Candidates must also attend and pass an
interview session in the Department.
2. Department of Silviculture and Forest Management

3. Department of Agroforestry
a. MPhil Agroforestry
Admission Requirements
The MPhil programme is open to holders of First Class or SecondĀ Class (Upper Division) degrees in Natural ResourcesĀ Management, Agriculture or Biological Sciences. Graduates inĀ other disciplines with relevant field experience are alsoĀ considered for admission. In addition, candidates will be requiredĀ to attend and pass an interview before admission.
b. PhD Agroforestry
Admission Requirements
The PhD programme is open to holders of MPhil in Agroforestry,Ā Natural Resources Management or related field of study withĀ appropriate field experience. Candidates will be required to takeĀ relevant courses during the programme. An interview is highly
relevant in the admission process.
4. Department of Wood Science and TechnologyĀ Management

Admission Requirements
Candidates must hold a Masterās degree in French from aĀ recognised University and must submit a research proposalĀ acceptable to the Postgraduate Coordinating Team. In addition,Ā candidates will be required to pass a selection interview.
3. Department of English
a. MPhil in English
Applicants seeking admission to the Master of PhilosophyĀ (MPhil) programme in English should have graduated with anĀ English major, with at least Second Class (Upper Division).
Candidates with Second Class Lower Division have to pass bothĀ written examination and an interview.
b. PhD (Literature)
Admission Requirements
Candidates must have an MA/MPhil degree in English from aĀ recognized institution or an equivalent degree accepted by theĀ Academic Board.
4. Department of Geography and Rural Development
a. MPhil Geography and Rural Development
Admission Requirements
A good first degree in Geography, Development Studies, NaturalĀ Sciences or other Geography related disciplines. A First Class orĀ Second Class (Upper Division) is preferred. Candidates shall beĀ selected at a selection interview. A submission of synopsis of
proposed thesis is a requirement.
b. PhD Geography and Rural Development
Admission Requirements
Masterās Degree in Geography, Development Studies or otherĀ Geography related disciplines. Candidates shall be selected at aĀ selection interview. Oral presentation of thesis proposal is aĀ requirement.
5. Department of Religious Studies
a. MA (One Year)ā Candidates must have obtained a good firstĀ degree (Second Class Lower Division or better) in eitherĀ Religious Studies or Theology from a recognised University orĀ accredited Theological Seminary/Institution.
b. MPhil ā Candidates must have obtained a good first degreeĀ (Second Class Upper Division or better) in either ReligiousĀ Studies or Theology from a recognised University or accreditedĀ Theological Seminary/Institution.
For the MA and MPhil programmes, candidates with SocialĀ Sciences or Humanities background must, in addition, have aĀ Diploma in Theology/Religious Studies from a
recognized/accredited Institution or Seminary. Admission isĀ subject to passing an entrance examination and interview.
c. PhD ā Candidates must have obtained an MPhil degree inĀ either Religious Studies or Theology from a recognisedĀ University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution.
6. Department of Sociology and Social Work

Admission Requirements
a. A good first degree in Sociology or Social Work with at leastĀ Second Class (Lower Division) or better from a recognizedĀ University.
b. A Postgraduate Diploma in the Humanities from anĀ Accredited University with at least two years workingĀ experience.

7. Department of History and Political Studies

Admission Requirements
- Applicants to the MPhil programme must have aĀ Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with a minimum ofĀ Second Class (Upper Division) in Political Science.
- Applicants with other disciplinary backgrounds could beĀ considered.
- Holders of Second Class (Lower Division) could beĀ considered if they have at least two years workĀ experience.
- International applicants must, in general, meet theĀ requirements above and also demonstrate proficiency inĀ English as the medium of classroom instruction.
- The final requirement for admission is an entryĀ examination and a departmental interview to determineĀ applicantsā suitability for the programme.
b. MPhil Historical Studies
Admission Requirements
- Applicants must have a good first degree (at least SecondĀ Class Upper Division) or its equivalent in History or in aĀ relevant field of study from an accredited institution in
Ghana. - The final requirement for admission is an entry examination and a departmental interview to determine applicantsā suitability for the programme.
- Applicants can show evidence of a minimum of twoĀ years working experience.
c. Master of Public Administration (MPA)

- Applicants to the MPA programme must have a goodĀ Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with Second ClassĀ (Upper Division).

All candidates must demonstrate their ability to pay allĀ approved programme fees for the duration of study.
Specific Requirements
Specific requirements for admission to the MPhil programme inĀ Business and Management at KSB are as follows:
a. Candidates shall hold Masterās degree (MSc in relevantĀ Business Administration subject area or MBA) from aĀ recognized University or institution of higher learning.
b. Applicants without Masterās degree qualification inĀ relevant Business Administration subject areas shall:
Possess a good first degree (minimum of Second ClassĀ Lower Division) in any subject area.
At the end of the first year, have a minimum CWA of 70Ā to proceed to MPhil in the second year [else the candidateĀ would be terminating with Master of Science (MSc) in the

Target Group
The Programmes target chiefs and practitioners in variousĀ sectors who need to upgrade their competency skills to be ableĀ to effectively deliver on their mandates and resolve challenges inĀ their institutions.
Duration and Entry Requirements
The Master of Philosophy is a modular programme of twoĀ yearsā duration and divided into four modules.Ā Participants/Students may therefore enroll on the programmeĀ and terminate their studies after completing one or twoĀ modules and obtain a certificate of participation or mayĀ continue to complete all four modules and obtain a Master of
Philosophy degree.

a. MPhil Environmental Resources Management
Duration of Programme:
- The programme is run in six modules (consisting of fourĀ modules of taught courses and two modules of projectĀ work, seminar and field work) lasting 24 months for
regular students and 36 months for part-time students. - There are 12-sub modules that constitute the taughtĀ modules and each sub module is normally run for aĀ duration of 3 weeks (including a period for examination).
This arrangement is to enable people from industry toĀ participate in the programme. - Part-time students would be required to register for aĀ minimum of two sub modules per semester.

The Degree is jointly offered by the African Regional IntellectualĀ Property Organization (ARIPO), Kwame Nkrumah University ofĀ Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi and IntellectualĀ Property Office of Ghana.Ā The Programme adopts a comparative approach, with particularĀ emphasis on Africa. Lectures are given by leading academics,
intellectual property practitioners, intellectual property officersĀ and other experts drawn from across Africa.
Admission Requirements
Eligible candidates are required to hold a minimum of aĀ Bachelorās degree (second class lower) from a recognizedĀ university in any discipline and have a minimum of two years
work experience. Proof of English proficiency is required,Ā therefore, students coming from countries where the officialĀ language is not English will need to submit evidence of
