KNUST MPhil Scholarships for Seed Science and Technology and Seed Systems

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, and The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Ghana MPhil. Scholarships for Seed Science and Technology and Seed Systems.

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, invites applications for enrollment into the Improved Master of Philosophy (MPhil.) program in Seed Science and Technology and Seed Systems, with funding from USAID/Ghana, beginning September 1, 2018 and ending August /2020.

Potential candidates for the program should be those already working in National Agricultural Research Institutions or the Ministries of Agriculture or recognized public and private institutions (Seed Companies) who will be guaranteed job placement upon completion of the programme. Candidates must hold a good B.Sc. degree (1st Class or 2nd Class Upper Division) in Agriculture or a related field of study from a recognized University. Candidates will be required to take formal study leave with regular payment of their salaries by their employers and provide evidence of re-integration into their current place of work to support research and development in the Seed sector of Ghana’s agricultural development.

Age Limit: 35 years; Duration of Program: 24 months (including 3 months’ internship in a Seed Company)

Contents

Crop Focus

The course work and research will focus on the following food crops:

Cereals: maize, rice, sorghum, millet

Root and tubers: cassava, yam and sweet potato

Legumes: cowpea and groundnut

Vegetables: tomato and pepper.

Selection Criteria and Funding

A panel of Academics will be constituted to evaluate academic records of applicants, to select suitable candidates for the programme.

Students will receive financial support to cover tuition, hostel accommodation on campus, book allowance, stipend, and research cost.
