JUST IN: Colleges of Education Teachers to strike on Nov. 2 over Salary Arrears
The College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced that its members will lay down their tools on Thursday, October 2,2017 over delay in payment of their salary arrears.
According to a letter dated October 30,2017,and signed by the National President, Rev.Nkyi Asamoah,the leadership of the Association has directed its members to withdraw services effective November 2,until their outstanding arrears have been paid by government.
According to the letter,the Finance Ministry has been given up to Wednesday, November 1,2017 to pay all outstanding arrears of the members of the Association .
The leadership  has indicated, that in October 2016,its members in the 38 public Colleges of Education were migrated by the Finance Ministry through the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) on to the Colleges of Education Pay Structure.
This follows the passage of Colleges of Education act 847 in 2012 to upgrade the Colleges into Tertiary Status and subsequent engagements with the other Stakeholders in the sector, including; The National Council for Tertiary Education, ECU Ministry, National Labour Commission, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana.
The leadership indicated that regrettably,salary arrears outstanding ,which is the difference between the Previous Grade levels and their current grade levels, which is from January to September 2016 Â has not been paid.
The Teachers lamented on how they were neglected by the Education and Finance Ministries after series of engagements,which was subsequently reported to the National Labour Commission, of which October 4,2017 ruling by the National Labour Commission ,directed the Finance Ministry to laise with the approximate bodies .
The Teachers therefore indicated that they shall law down their tools if nothing positive is being heard by close of work on Wednesday.
