How to Login to Google Classroom on Any Device

Developed by Google, Google Classroom is a free blended-learning platform for educational institutions that aimed to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments. With Google Classroom, you can use it in your school to streamline assignments, boost collaboration, and foster communication.

However, to teach or take a class in Google Classroom, you will need to first create an account and log in. You can use Google Classroom on the web or mobile device. Although the process looks slightly different depending on the type of Google account you have, the steps are essentially the same.

To get started, open Google Classroom on your desktop or mobile app using an email associated with your Classroom account. Once you have logged in to your Google Classroom account, you can teach or take your classes.

How to Login to Google Classroom on a Desktop

To sign in to your Classroom account with your desktop, follow the procedures outlined below.

  • Open your web browser and go to classroom.google.com.
  • Enter your personal, organizational, or educational email account.
  • Click “Next.”
  • Enter your password and click “Next.”
  • If there is a welcome message, review it, and click “Accept.”
  • If you have a G Suite for Education account, click either “I’m a student” or “I’m a teacher.” If you’re using a personal account or it’s not your first login, this choice will not appear.
  • If this is your first time logging in, click “Get started” to finish.

How to Login to Google Classroom on an iPhone and iPad

To sign in to your Classroom account with your iPhone or iPad, follow the procedures outlined below.

  • Open the Google Classroom app.
  • Tap “Get started.”
  • A window will pop up asking you to choose an existing account. You can also tap “Add account.”
  • For the first time login, type in the email for your Classroom account.
  • Tap “Next.”
  • If you have a G Suite for Education account, either click “I’m a student” or “I’m a teacher.” (You won’t see this option if using a personal account.)
  • Enter your password.
  • Choose “Next.
  • If a welcome message appears, review it before selecting “Accept.”

How to Login to Google Classroom on Android

To sign in to your Classroom account with your Android, follow the procedures outlined below.

  • Tap on the Google Classroom app to open it.
  • Select “Get started.”
  • A window will pop up asking you to choose an existing account. You can also tap “Add account” to log in using a new account.
  • Click “OK” to finish the log in process.
  • If you’re logging in for the first time, type in the email for your Classroom account, then choose “Next.”
  • Enter your password before choosing “Next.”
  • If a welcome message appears, review it and tap “Accept.”
  • When a Terms of Service and Privacy Policy screen appears, review it and select “I agree.”
  • For those using a G Suite for Education account, click either “I’m a student” or “I’m a teacher” to finalize your log in process.

How to Switch to a Different Account

If you’re signed in to multiple accounts and need to switch to the account you use with Classroom:

  1. At the top, tap your profile image or initial.
  2. Select or add the account.

Join a Google Classroom Class as a Student

To join a class as a student, you need to first of all login into Classroom on your computer or mobile device. Also, you can only join a class in three ways.

  • A class link—Your teacher sends you the link.
  • A class code—Your teacher sends or tells you the class code.
  • An email invite—Your teacher sends you the invite.

After you join a class on one device, you’re enrolled in that class for all devices.

How to Join a Class as a Student on a Computer

Join with a class link

  1. Click the class link your teacher shared.
  2. Select the account you use for Classroom.
  3. Click Join.

Join with a class code

  1. Go to classroom.google.com.
  2. Make sure to sign in with the correct account. If you’re already signed in and need to switch accounts, in the top-right corner, click your profile picture, and select or add your account.
  3. At the top, click Join class.
  4. Enter the class code from your teacher and click Join.

Tip: Class codes are 6-7 characters, and use letters and numbers. Codes can’t have spaces or special symbols.

Join with an email invite

Your teacher might send you an email invite. You can join the class by email or in Classroom.

Accept the invite to Classroom

  1. Go to classroom.google.com.
  2. Make sure to sign in with the correct account. If you’re already signed in and need to switch accounts, in the top-right corner, click your profile picture, and select or add your account.
  3. On the class card, click Join.

Accept the invite in your email

  1. Open the email program you use for Classroom.
  2. In the email invite, click Join.
  3. (Optional) If you see Class not found, click the Down arrow
    and sign in with the account you use for Classroom.
  4. Click Join.

How to Join a Class as a Student on an iPhone or iPad

Join with a class link

  1. Tap the class link your teacher shared.
  2. Make sure you’re signed in with the correct account for Classroom. If you need to switch accounts, tap the Down arrow and select or add your account.
  3. Tap Join class.

Join with a class code

Your teacher can tell you the class code. After you get the code, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Classroom.
  2. Make sure to sign in with the correct account. If you’re already signed in and need to switch accounts, in the top-right corner, tap your profile picture, and select or add your account.
  3. In the lower-right corner, tap Join class
  4. Enter the class code from your teacher and tap Join.

Note: Class codes are 6-7 characters, and use letters and numbers. Codes can’t have spaces or special symbols. If a code doesn’t work, make sure you signed in with the correct account.
