Role, Purpose and Context
This role is responsible for overseeing all materials requirement planning, control and management on the mine. The position will require enhancing communication and coordination with Operations, Maintenance, Warehousing, Purchasing and Finance on a routine basis. The role holder is accountable for the implementation and maintenance of relevant Materials management systems, methods, policies, processes and standards in the Obuasi context and reporting to the Commercial Manager in terms of performance targets, standards and KPIs, risks in compliance with AGA CAR materials management and integrated Supply Chain management frameworks.
The role must build and enhance cross-functional relationships between all Obuasi operating and support departments on all issues pertaining to Materials management. Receive service levels and customer service complaints, resolve and communicate standards throughout the mine to optimize operational excellence and functional alignment. Further functions include promoting efficiency in inventory management workload distribution, enhancing internal customer engagements and relationships, continuous improvement and coaching materials planning and materials engineering staff in professional development.
Key Accountabilities
- Establish the necessary materials planning processes and practices including the CIR, cataloguing of new items, materials engineering, and stock replenishment procedures for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine, including requirements for Operational Readiness.
- Provide unequivocal materials planning and control data to enable the quarterly updates of the rolling 18-month plan to be produced on time.
- Develop the annual Materials Planning cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual, medium-term and LoM business plans
- Deliver the work of the Materials Planning function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs.
- Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture across the Geology department and with own team regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development
- Provide the resources and expertise to develop the team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, according to their role and level of authority
- Rigorously drive implementation of projects and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within the team
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, CARO etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or Operations management
- Membership of APICS, CIPS-UK or any equivalent professional organization will be an added advantage.
Experience
- At least twelve (12) years’ experience with good knowledge of integrated materials planning, control and logistics in mining, oil & gas or heavy industrial equipment operations or the environment.
- A Team lead for a minimum of 5 years
