22,002 Candidates in Upper East Prepare for BECE

A total of 22,002 pupils in the Upper East Region are preparing to sit for the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) slated for June 10.

The figure represents 3.9 percent increase from last year’s number of candidates of 21,140 who sat for the examination.

The number comprised 10,103 males and 11,299 females from 606 schools including one special school, Gbeogo School for the Deaf at Tongo in the Talensi District and public and private schools.

Mr Giba Abraham Adoctor, the Upper East Regional Examination Officer, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, stated that 88 centres would be used for the examination.

He said all schools had finished writing their mock examinations, which were paid for by their various Members of Parliament (MPs) and the candidates were now assiduously preparing for finals.

He said the candidates had further been sensitized on the rules and regulations regarding the conduct of the examinations and admonished the pupils to study hard and try to do independent work to avoid being caught for examination malpractices.

He warned the pupils that any candidate who would be caught cheating during the exercise would have his or her examination papers cancelled.

Whilst the Regional Examination Officer expressed gratitude to the teachers for guiding the pupils towards the examination, he advised them to use the few days left to offer the necessary support they could to the candidates and not wait till examinations begin.

Mr Adoctor warned teachers, relatives and friends of the candidates to stay away from the examination centres during the exercise to avoid being arrested, prosecuted and the examination papers of the beneficiary candidate(s) of their actions being cancelled.
