- Reports to: WAGES Project Coordinator based in Accra
- Duration: 2 years with possibility of renewal

Nature and Scope:
The Field Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of WAGES project in the two districts (Prestea-Huni Valley and Wassa East Districts). The incumbent manages relationships with key stakeholders, including local government representatives, the private sector (mining companies, training institutions etc.) and the civil society groups (women associations, youth associations, etc.) the two districts.
Reporting to WAGES Project Coordinator, the Field Coordinator will:
Technical Coordination & Project Management
- Be Responsible for managing the performance of the field team;
- Represent the project in the two districts and sometimes second the Country Director to represent the project at the National level.
- Ensure monthly, quarterly and annual planning of project activities in the field;
- Ensure the implementation of monthly, quarterly and annual work plans;
- Supervise the development and submission of monthly budgets related to the operation of the filed offices and the implementation of activities;
- In collaboration with the Project Finance team, ensure efficient and effective management, in accordance with the procedures and standards in force at WUSC, of funds and assets made available to the field team;
- Actively participate in the collection and updating of information including gender issues and youth inclusion and success stories for the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual activities reports;
- Ensure the management of local and Canadian volunteers in the areas;
- Prepare and organize field visits for project coordination, WUSC management, authorities, donors and other partners;
- Ensure the strict application by the field team, the code of procedures, conduct, and compliance with the safety plan;
- Contribute and ensure the achievement of the expected results of project planning (ie, the project implementation plan (PIP), annual work plans (AWP) and budgets) using Results-based management approaches and tools (RBMs);
- Participate in the development and implementation of specific strategies for cross-cutting themes (capacity building, gender equality, private sector mobilization, environmental sustainability) of WAGES;
- Coordinate on a day-to-day basis the project activities for which he / she is responsible in conjunction with staff, consultants, volunteers, partners and the Project Coordinator.
- Work with colleagues and partners to ensure the effective mobilization, orientation and coaching of volunteers.
- Lead the planning and managing the implementation of the Beyond Zero Harm (BZH) research project in Ghana, in close collaboration with WAGES Regional M&E Specialist and ACET’s country researcher.
- Provide implementation support to Project Specialists and coordinate the contribution of other staff, volunteers, consultants and partners in implementing of project activities.
- Create and update project documentation as needed to support field implementation.
- Lead the implementation of the Knowledge Sharing Component of the project
- Review and approve budget request for field travels and others.
Reporting
- Work with team members to produce regular reports in a timely manner as planned in the PIP and AWPs;
- Develop, document, and consolidate key information and best practices on governance and sustainable economic development in Ghana;
- Maintain regular communication with the Project Coordinator and other project team members in Ghana to ensure appropriate support.
Partner Liaison & Coordination
- Partnership development in the field and continuous coordination of the field activities.
- Establish a strong working relationship with the partners, including planning, capacity building and information sharing;
- Coordinate regularly with other development actors in Western Region to ensure harmonization and synergy with similar initiatives
Requirements
A postgraduate university degree in international development, project management or a relevant field.
Experience and Competencies
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible assignments related to management of development initiatives;
- A minimum of 5 years working experience in Ghana; particularly in Western Region will be an asset;
- Proven knowledge and experience in natural resources management, economic development and local governance;
- Demonstrated capacity to work in cross-sectoral collaboration;
- Experience working with donor agencies, including a solid understanding of Results Based Management (RBM) and environmental and gender policies and reporting requirements;
- Proven technical and financial managerial and administrative and organizational skills;
- Proven experience with the multidisciplinary staff and international consultants and volunteers;
- Diplomatic skills and the knowledge of cross-cultural, interpersonal communication;
- Proven knowledge of and commitment to the concepts of Gender Equality and Youth Inclusion;
- Experience in capacity building with local partner organizations and a commitment to a participatory partnership approach to development;
- Proven experience working with information technology (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, internet);
- Capacity to travel and live in remote areas.
Language
- Superior oral and written skills required in English;
- Oral skills in one of the local languages spoken in the western region of Ghana;
