MPHIL / PHD PROGRAMMMES IN MEDICAL IMAGING APPLICANTS

1. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN MEDICAL IMAGING
The MPhil programme has two pathways; a two (2) year Full-Time (Regular) and a three year Part-Time (sandwich) options. Students are to choose the format that best suits them. The first academic year for regular candidates will consist of taught courses which will be run in two semesters. The timeline for the full time (regular) format will run from August to June and for Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations (June – August).
Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester for the part-time programme. The second year is full time non-residential, which will focus mainly on research work. Students will undertake independent research study presented in the form of thesis with a word count not exceeding 50,000 words. Successful completion of the research component of the programme is a partial fulfilment of the requirements leading to the award of a Master of Philosophy degree in Medical Imaging. The minimum and maximum period for completing the programme shall be four and eight semesters (2 to 4 years) respectively.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MPHIL
- Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.2 GPA) in Medical Imaging (Diagnostic/therapy Radiography), Nuclear Medicine or related MI area from a recognised University.
- Applicants must have at least two years work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related MI specialties.
- Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees
- Applicants must pass an admission interview
- Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply
2. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)
The PhD programme is a four (4) year full-time or six years part-time (sandwich)] one. In the first academic year, candidates will undertake taught courses. This will enable them identify areas of research interest in medical imaging to conduct their research. The second year will consist of experiential learning, workshops and a series of research seminars. The final two years will focus mainly on research work that will be presented in the form of thesis with a word count not exceeding 100,000 words. The minimum and maximum period for completing the programme shall be eight and twelve semesters (4 to 6 years) respectively.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR PHD
- Applicants must hold an MPhil or MSc. in Medical Imaging, Therapy Radiography, Nuclear Medicine or related MI area from a recognised University.
- Applicants must have at least three years work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related MI specialties.
- Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
- Applicants must pass an admission interview
- Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply
- Research proposal (not more than 700 words)
- Statement of purpose (not more than 500 words)
