ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMMES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

A. DEGREE PROGRAMMES

A1.       4-YEAR BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN BASIC EDUCATION

Applicants must possess any ONE of the following:

  1. WASSC with Credits (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects including three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, as well as three (3) Elective subjects with the total aggregate of 36 or better
  2. SSSC with Credits (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, as well as three (3) Elective subjects with the total aggregate of 24 or better
  3. GCE Advanced Level with Credits in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had Credits (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for Science students).
  4. Diploma Holders:  Tertiary Diploma holders (who have not studied education in their previous programmes) will be placed at level 200 of the 4-Year Bachelor of Education in Basic Education programme.
  5. Mature Applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’  under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade subject.

 

A2.       4-YEAR BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

  • The entry requirements are the same as those for 4-Year Bachelor of Education in Basic Education

 

A3.       4-YEAR BACHELOR OF ARTS (B.A.) IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION

a) WASSC Holders

  1. Must possess Credits (A1–C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science OR Social Studies as well as Credits (A1 – C6) in three (3) elective subjects including English Literature with the total aggregate of 36 or better

b) SSSC Holders

  1. Must possess Credits (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science OR Social Studies, and Credits (A – D) in three (3) elective subjects including English Literature with the total aggregate of 24 or better

c) GCE Advanced Level Certificate holders must have Credits in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had Credits (Grade 6) in five GCE        Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for Science students)

d) Mature Applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’ under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade subject.

 

A4.       4-YEAR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (B.SC.) IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

a) WASSC Holders

  1. Must possess Credits (A1–C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science, as well as Credits (A1 – C6) in three (3) elective subjects including Elective Mathematics with the total aggregate of 36 or better

b) SSSC Holders

  1. Must possess Credits (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science, as well as Credits (A – D) in three (3) elective subjects including Elective Mathematics with the total aggregate of 24 or better

 

c) GCE Advanced Level Certificate holders must have Credits in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had Credits (Grade 6) in five GCE        Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for Science students)

d) Mature Applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’ under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade subject.

 

A5.       4-YEAR BACHELOR OF ARTS (B.A.) IN SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION

     a) WASSC Holders

Must have six (6) Credits (A1 – C6) comprising three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science OR Social Studies as well as Credits (A1-C6) in three (3) Elective                 subjects including two (2) of the following electives: Geography, Economics, History, Government, and CRS/IRS.

     b) SSSC Holders

Must have six (6) Credits (A – D) comprising three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science OR Social Studies) as well as Credits (A-D) in three (3) Elective                       subjects including two (2) of the following electives: Geography, Economics, History, Government and CRS/IRS.

      c) Mature Applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’ under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade                      subject.

 

A6.      4-YEAR BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (BBA) IN ACCOUNTING STUDIES

    a)    WASSC Holders

i. Candidate must have Credits in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Science/Integrated Science OR Social Studies, as well as Credits in any other                    three (3)relevant elective subjects (i.e. Business Management, Financial Accounting, Elective mathematics, Cost Accounting, Economics, and Business Mathematics).

    b)   SSSC Holders

  1. Candidate must have Credits in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Science/Integrated Science OR Social Studies, as well as Credits (A-D) in any two (2) of the following: Business Management, Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Business Mathematics), plus
  2. A credit pass (A-D) in one of any of the following: Elective Mathematics and Economics.

   c)   GCE Holders

  1. Credits in any three (3) of the following ‘A’ Level subjects: Accounting, Business Management, Costing, Economics, Mathematics, Government and Geography plus
  2. Possess GCE ‘O’ Level credits in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Science

    d)   ABCE Holders: Candidates with Five (5) Credits in relevant ABCE subjects will be placed at level 200 of the degree programme. Such applicants must, in addition, possess the GBCE Certificate with                 Credits in six (6)subjects comprising three (3) core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science OR Social Studies, and Credits in any three (3) elective subjects (i.e. Accounting,                 Business Management, Costing, Finance, Business Mathematics, Economics, Office Practice, Law, Marketing)

    e) Mature Applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’ under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade subject.

A7.      4-YEAR BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IN HUMAN RESOURCE MGT.

  • The entry requirements are the same as those for 4-Year Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting Studies

B. POST DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

B1.       2-YEAR POST DIPLOMA (B. ED.) IN BASIC EDUCATION

  1. Applicants for the 2-year Post Diploma (B.Ed.) in Basic Education programme must be holders of a Diploma in Basic Education from the University of Education, Winneba or any recognized University or Institution.
  2. Other applicants must possess a Teacher’s Diploma in Basic Education awarded to graduates from the Colleges of Education in Ghana.

B2.       2-YEAR POST DIPLOMA (B. ED.) IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

  1. Applicants for the 2-year Post Diploma (B.Ed.) in Early Childhood Education must be holders of a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from the University of Education, Winneba or any recognized University.
  2. Other applicants must possess a Teacher’s Diploma in Early Childhood awarded to graduates from the Colleges of Education in Ghana.

B3.      2- YEAR POST DIPLOMA (BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION) IN ACCOUNTING STUDIES

  1. Applicants must possess a Diploma in Accounting Studies from the University of Education, Winneba or any recognized University.
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy with 2nd Class Lower and above can apply.

B4.       2- YEAR POST DIPLOMA (BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION) IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  1. Applicants must possess the Diploma in Management Studies from the University of Education, Winneba or any recognized University.
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) or its equivalent in EITHER Human Resource Management, Secretaryship and Management, Accountancy, Marketing, Purchasing & Supply OR any tertiary Diploma in a relevant area with 2nd Class Lower and above can also apply.

B5.    3-YEAR POST DIPLOMA (BACHELOR OF ARTS) IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION

(a) Entry Requirement(s)

  1. A Diploma in Basic Education
  2. A WASSC with a credit in Literature in English Literature

        (b) Entry Point or Placement: Level 200 of the 4-Year B.A. in English Language Education programme

B6.    3-YEAR POST DIPLOMA (BACHELOR OF ARTS) IN SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION

(a) Entry Requirement(s)

  1. A Diploma in Basic Education
  2. A WASSC with a credit in at least two (2) of the following electives: Geography, Economics, History, Government, or CRS/IRS

        (b) Entry Point or Placement: Level 200 of the 4-Year B.A. in Social Studies Education programme

B7.    3-YEAR POST DIPLOMA (BACHELOR OF SCIENCE) IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

(a) Entry Requirement(s)

  1. A Diploma in Basic Education
  2. A WASSC with a credit in Elective Mathematics

        (b) Entry Point or Placement: Level 200 of the 4-Year B.Sc. in Mathematics Education programme

NB:     Diploma in Basic Education Certificate Holders who do not meet the criteria in (ii) under B5, B6 and B7 above will be placed at Level 100 of the respective programmes.

C. DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

C1.3- YEAR DIPLOMA IN BASIC EDUCATION

Applicants must possess any ONE of the following:

  1. WASSC with credits (A1 – C6) in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and credits (A1 – C6) in any two (2) elective subjects.
  2. SSSC with Credits (A – D) in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and two (2)elective subjects.
  3. GCE ‘O’ Level with Credits (Grade 6) in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
  4. Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ from a recognized College of Education or Institution.
  5. Mature applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’ under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade subject.

C2.       3- YEAR DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Applicants must possess any ONE of the following:

  1. WASSC with credits (A1 – C6) in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and credits (A1 – C6) in any two (2) elective subjects.
  2. SSSC with Credits (A – D) in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and two (2)elective subjects.
  3. GCE ‘O’ Level with Credits (Grade 6) in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
  4. Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ from a recognized College of Education or Institution.
  5. Holders of Certificate in Pre-School Education from the University of Education, Winneba can also apply.
  6. Mature applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’ under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and   should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade subject.

C3.       3-YEAR DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTING STUDIES

Applicants must possess any ONE of the following:

  1. WASSC with credits (A1 – C6) in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies and            credits (A1 – C6) in any two (2) relevant elective subjects.
  2. SSSC with Credits (A – D) in English Language, Mathematics & Integrated Science/Social Studies and two (2) relevant elective subjects.
  3. GCE ‘O’ Level with Credits (Grade 6) in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
  4. Diploma in Business Studies (DBS): A DBS certificate from any recognized Institution with passes in all subjects. In addition, candidates must possess four (4) WASSC credits (A1 – C6) or four (4) SSSC passes (A – D) including English Language and Mathematics.
  5. Professional Accountancy Certificate with a minimum of Part 1 of:
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) – ICA
  • Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
  • Association of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA)
  • Institute of Bankers (IB)
  • Other professional Accountancy Certificates from recognized Institution or Body.
  1. Mature applicants: Must be 25 years or above (Refer to ‘item 2’ under ‘Definition of Terms’ for details) and should have a minimum of a SSSC/WASSC or An Advanced/Part III Certificate in a trade subject.

C4.       3-YEAR DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT STUDIES

  • The entry requirements are the same as those for Diploma in Accounting Studies in addition to the subjects such as Commerce, Office Administration/Practice and Business Management.
  • Holders of Private Secretary Certificates can also apply.

C5.       1-YEAR DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION

Applicants must possess any ONE of the following:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in any relevant field of study.
  2. A tertiary Diploma or a Higher National Diploma (HND) or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
  3.  An advanced/Part III certificate in a trade subject.

NB: This programme is by Direct Entry only. Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) qualification alone cannot be used for admission into this programme.

D. UEW POSTGRADUATE DISTANCE EDUCATION PROGRAMMES

D1. 1-YEAR POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE)

  1. A Bachelors degree from a recognised University in any field of study.
  2. A satisfactory performance at a screening interview organised by the IEDE, UEW.

D2. MASTER OF EDUCATION IN ENGLISH

  1. Applicants should possess a good Bachelor’s Degree in English with education component (eg B.A. English Language Edu.) from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) or its equivalent from a recognised University in the relevant field of study
  2. Applicants with B.A. or B.Sc. without education must have a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Education.
  3. Must pass a selection interview

D3. MASTER OF EDUCATION IN MATHEMATICS

  1. Applicants should possess a good bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with education component (e.g. B.Ed. Maths or B.Sc. Maths Edu.) from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) or its equivalent from a recognised University in the relevant field of study.
  2. Applicants with B.A. or B.Sc. degree without education must also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Education.
  3. Must pass a selection interview

D4. MASTER OF EDUCATION IN SCIENCE

  1. Applicants should possess a good bachelor’s degree in a Science/Applied Science subject with education component (e.g. B.Sc. Physics Edu.) from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) or its equivalent from a recognised University in the relevant field of study.
  2. Applicants with B.Sc. degree without education in the sciences or the applied sciences who are teaching in an educational institution or applied sciences. Such applicants must also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Education.
  3. Must pass a selection interview

D5. MASTER OF EDUCATION IN MENTORSHIP

  1. Applicants must have a first degree with education component from a recognised University.
  2. Applicants with B.A. or B.Sc. degree without education must also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Education.
  3. All applicants must pass a selection interview

DEFINITION OF TERMS

  1. Direct Applicants: Applicants who possess the requirements for admission and are selected on the strength of their WASCE/SSSC/School certificates. They are usually not required to write the University’s  entrance examination before being admitted.
  2. Mature Applicants: Applicants who do not possess the requirements for direct entry and are therefore required to write the University’s entrance examinations. Such applicants must be at least, 25 years by 1st August, 2018. These applicants must show proof of their ages with birth certificates or any other legitimate documentary proof of date of birth. The documentary evidence must be at least, five (5) years old at the time of application.
  3. Post Diploma Applicants: These are Tertiary Diploma Certificate Holders in relevant subject areas seeking admission into 2-Year Top-up Programmes for a Degree in their previous areas/fields of study.
  4. Post Graduate Applicants: Applicants seeking admission for the Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Master’s Degree programmes must possess a first degree in a relevant area.
  5. WASSC: West African Senior School Certificate
  6. SSSC:  Senior Secondary School Certificate
