Turnitin is a web-based plagiarism prevention system used by most universities in the world. The Internet-based plagiarism checker seeks to improve learning processes for students. This E-learning platform is to helps lecturers of the Turnitin in uploading their courses and course materials (ie. course outlines, lecture notes/PowerPoint presentations, recommended reading books/journals, videos, forums) on the E-learning platform to enable students to access them for continuing academic work. Turnitin Portal Requirements
If you are new to Turnitin and have not been added to an account by your instructor, you must create a student profile. To create your own student account, your class ID and class enrollment key are required.
The class ID and class enrollment key are needed to ensure you have the authorization to join a class, and can only be obtained from your instructor. Students wishing to access Turnitin must contact the appropriate personnel at the institution to receive the class ID and class enrollment key. Turnitin staff cannot distribute this information to any user.
Instructors may distribute this data or may add students to a Turnitin class themselves, which will send an automatic welcome email, allowing access to the account.
How to Create a Turnitin Account as a Student
Before you can gain access to Turnitin, you must first of all, create an account. To get started, follow the procedures outlined below.
- Go to www.turnitin.com
- Click on the Create Account link next to the Log In button
- Click on the student link.
- The Create a New Turnitin Student Profile form must be completed to create a new student user account.
- Enter the class ID number and the case-sensitive Turnitin class enrollment key.
- Enter the user’s first name, last name, and a valid e-mail address to use as the login for Turnitin.
- Create a user password. The user password must be between six and twelve characters long and contain at least one letter and one number. Re-enter the password to confirm it.
- Select a secret question from the drop-down menu. Enter the answer to the question. Remember and keep this information. The answer is case and space sensitive.
- Review the user agreement. To continue using Turnitin, click on I agree — create a profile.
- From the completed user profile creation page, click on Log in to Turnitin
How to Access Turnitin Portal Login as a Student
You can also access the Turnitin page by login in with your credentials. To get started, follow the procedures outlined below.
- Go to www.turnitin.com (or http://turnitinuk.com if you are in the UK) and click on the “Log In” button located at the top right corner.
- Enter your email address and password.
- Then click on the login button to access your Turnitin dashboard.
How to Submit Your Assignment on Turnitin
Students can also submit their assignments on Turnitin by following the procedures outlined below.
- Go to www.turnitin.com and click on the “Log In” button located at the top right corner.
- Enter your email address and password.
- Then click on the login button to access your Turnitin dashboard.
- Click on the Class name to access your class home page to see your assignments.
- Hover over the “assignment info” icon to show you additional assignment information, & if late papers & re-submission are allowed.
- Review the assignment’s start & due dates & times.
- Click on “Submit” to start submitting your paper.

How to Create a Turnitin Account as an Instructor
To join Turnitin as an Instructor, you must first receive an email from Turnitin on behalf of your account administrator. If you haven’t received this email yet, ask your account administrator to add you to your institution’s account.
- Check your email for the subject line ‘Set up Your Turnitin Instructor Account‘.
- Follow the Get Started button to do just that.
- From the Account Setup page, enter your email address and Last Name.
The information you use during the account setup is provided to us by your Administrator. We ask you to confirm it here for security reasons. Getting an error message? Check with your account administrator that they’ve spelled your name correctly!
- Back to your email inbox! This time look out for the subject line ‘Create your Turnitin account‘.
- Follow the link you’ll find in the email.
- Create a password for use with your account. Your password must be between 6 and 12 characters in length, containing at least one letter and one number.
- You’re all set. You can now use the details you’ve just created to log in to Turnitin.
How to Retrieve Your Turnitin Password
You can also retrieve your lost or forgotten Turnitin password by following the procedures outlined below.
- Visit https://www.turnitin.com/ or (https://www.turnitinuk.com/ if you are in the UK)
- Enter your email address and last name or family name.
- Thereafter, click “Next”
- The password reset link will be sent to your associated email address.
If you do not know the email address for your account, ask your instructor (or Turnitin administrator, if you are an instructor) to look up your email address.
