• SCHOOL OF MEDICAL SCIENCES:

DEPARTMENT OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

• BSC NURSING PROGRAMME  (DEGREE)

(Accredited by the National Accreditation Board, and Affiliated with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(A) Applicants with SSSCE certificates must have total aggregate of twenty-four
(24) or better in six(6) subjects, comprising: A – D in THREE CORE SUBJECTS- i.e. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and AT LEAST Credit in  (3) Elective subjects in any of the following:

• Elective Mathematics         II. Biology          III. Physics       IV. Chemistry

 (B)   Applicants with WASSCE Results must obtain a minimum of six (6) Credit Passes (i.e. A1 –C6) in three (3) Core Subjects i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated Science., and in  (3) Elective subjects in any of the following:

• Elective Mathematics         II. Biology          III. Physics       IV. Chemistry

C) MATURE APPLICANTS (EVENING AND WEEKEND) 
Must :

• Be at least 25 years and above at the time of application.
• Pass an entrance examination to be conducted by the College
• Pass a selection interview.
• Have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.

Mature applicants include:

• • DIPLOMA HOLDERS

Candidates with a Diploma certificate in Nursing from recognized institutions with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a pass in the licensure examination conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council will be admitted to the third year. (NB: No Entrance Examination)

• • OTHER MATURE CANDIDATES
• Holders of Diploma in Nursing Education/Administration with a minimum of B+ average. (enter the programme in the third year)
• State Registered Nurses (enter the programme in the second year)

Health Assistants, Community, or Enrolled Nurse and non-nurse mature candidates (enter the programme in the first year) must obtain a minimum of six (6) Credit Passes (i.e. A1 –C6) in three (3) Core subjects and three (3) Elective subjects in the following options; Science, General Arts, Agriculture Programme and Home Economic with a total aggregate of Thirty Six (36) or better.

• REGISTERED GENERAL NURSING (RGN) (DIPLOMA) Programme:

     Duration: Three (3) years

     ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

• Applicants with SSSCE certificates must have a total aggregate of twenty-four (24) or better in six(6)

subjects, comprising: A – D in all THREE CORE SUBJECTS- i.e. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and AT LEAST Credit in  (3) Elective subjects in any of the following options(See Table Below):

• Applicants with WASSCE Certificates must obtain a minimum of six (6) Credit Passes (i.e. A1 –C6) in

three (3) Core subjects and three (3) Elective subjects (See Table Below) with a total aggregate of Thirty-Six (36) or better.

• POST REGISTERED NURSE ASSISTANT/

COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE-MIDWIFERY (CERTIFICATE)
       Duration:  Two (2) years

       ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• Qualified Health Assistant or Community Health Nurse
• Three (3) years post training working experience
• A testimonial from current employer
• Have no criminal record
• Be medically fit certified by a qualified Medical Officer

•  REGISTERED NURSE ASSISTANT (CERTIFICATE)

    Duration: Two (2) years.

   ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

• Applicants with SSSCE certificates must have a total aggregate of Thirty (30) or better in

three (3) Core subjects, comprising: A – E in all THREE CORE SUBJECTS- i.e. English,  
            Mathematics and Integrated Science and (A-E) in any three (3) elective subjects.

• Applicants with WASSCE certificates must have an aggregate score of Forty-Eight (48) or better

comprising (A1-E8) in three (3) Core subjects i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated  
          Science and (A1-E8) in any three elective subjects

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTSHIP (DEGREE)
  
   1.  BSC PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTSHIP (DEGREE)

Duration: Four (4) years

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
      (A)    Applicants with SSSCE certificate must have an aggregate score of twenty-four (24)(A-D) or better in six
subjects, comprising: (3 core subjects, i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated Science and 3 electives in pure
science, i.e.   Elective Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry

      (B)     Applicants with a WASSCE certificate must have an aggregate score of Thirty-six (36)(A1-C6) or better in six
subjects,comprising: ((3 core subjects, i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated Science and 3 electives in pure
science, i.e. Elective Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry)
        

C) MATURE APPLICANTS (EVENING AND WEEKEND) 
 

•   DIPLOMA IN PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTSHIP (Medical )

Candidates with a Diploma certificate in Physician Assistantship from recognized institutions with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a pass in the licensure examination conducted by the Medical and Dental  Council will be admitted to third year (Level 300). 
           (II)   OTHERS 
Mature applicants must be qualified Nurses (SRN/RGN) or holders of Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology. In addition, candidates must have attained the age of 25 years or above with five (5) credits in five (5) GCE “O” Levels or six passes in SSSCE/ WASSCE subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Science, and must have at least three (3) years working experience in addition to passing an entrance examination and interview. Successful candidates would be admitted into level 200.
 

• SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCE

DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

• BSC MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY (DEGREE)

 (Accredited by the National Accreditation Board, and Affiliated to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

i. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) 
Grade D or better in three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects namely Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

ii. West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) 
Grade C6 or better in three (3) core subjects i.e. English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies and three (3) elective subjects namely Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

iii. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level 
Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject for Science students.

iv. Mature Students’ Entry Requirements

Applicants must have:

• FIVE (5) credits at the ‘O’ level, including English language and mathematics

OR

• WASSCE/SSSCE credit passes in THREE relevant Elective Subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics

OR

• Ministry of Health Certificates in Medical Laboratory Technology or Science

Laboratory Technology with elective science background shall be interviewed and successful applicants placed in the FIRST YEAR. However, those without elective science background will go through the Access Course that encompasses the Six (6) major areas in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Mathematics and Integrated Science

In addition to the above requirements, applicants should:

• Be at least 25 years old at the time of submitting the application and must show proof of age with a birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth date which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.
• Provide an introductory letter from the employer or show any other proof of employment.

V.  Others
Professional Certificate Holders in Medical Laboratory

• Diploma Certificate Holders

Applicants with Diploma Certificates from a recognised institution will be admitted to level 300 of the programme

• HND Certificate Holders

Applicants with an HND Certificate will be admitted to level 200 after passing an entrance examination

2. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY (DIPLOMA)

Duration:  Three (3) years.
    
ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

• Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

Grade D or better in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science or Social Studies) and two (2) elective subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Elective Maths.

• West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Grade C6 or better in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science or Social Studies) and two (2) elective subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Elective Maths.

3. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (CERTIFICATE)
Duration: Two (2) years.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

• Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

Grade E or better in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics (Core), Integrated Science or Social Studies) and any three (3) elective subjects.

• West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Grade E8 or better in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and any three (3) elective subjects.

GENERAL INFORMATION

PLEASE NOTE:

WEST AFRICAN EXAMINATION COUNCIL EQUIVALENTS OF GRADES (WASSCE / SSSCE)

NOTE:     The lumping together of SSSCE and WASSCE results is NOT accepted.
                  Candidates with SSSCE and WASSCE results will be treated separately for admission  
                  purposes.

Application forms for admission may be purchased at the GENERAL OFFICE, Narh-Bita College Main Campus (near Narh-Bita Hospital, Tema) or Adom Campus at Community five (5) opposite St. Paul Methodist Church, for a non-refundable fee. Alternatively, the Application forms can be downloaded from the college’s website at www.narhbita.com.gh and pay a processing fee on submission.
