The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks to recruit a Social Scientist – Gender Specialist under the OneCGIAR Sustainable intensification of Mixed Farming Systems (SI-MFS) Initiative – Ghana.
Duty Station: Tamale, Ghana with some travel to project implementation sites
POSITION SUMMARY
The incumbent will work in an interdisciplinary team of agricultural researchers and will be responsible for collecting and analyzing social science data with a focus on gender and intersectionality. S/He will report to the gender lead of the OneCGIAR initiative “Sustainable intensification of Mixed Farming Systems’’
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Social Scientist – Gender Specialist – SI-MFS Ghana will perform the following duties, among others:Â
- Collect. process and analyze quantitative and qualitative social science data with a focus on intersecting inequalities
- Contribute to the development of research tools (including piloting)
- Monitor and ensure the quality of data collected by research assistants
- Establish and maintain relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders in the specific context
- Organize and facilitate training and workshops to increase gender capacity
- Contribute to the writing of reports, peer-reviewed publications, and communication products
- Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor
Required Skills or Experience
- Education:Â Advanced degree, MA or MSc in Development Studies, Sociology, Anthropology or any other relevant social science
- Work experience: At least two years of experience in conducting gender research in rural contexts in Ghana (especially in the Northern part of the country). Very good knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research strategies including data analysis. Excellent knowledge of the Ghanaian context, specifically the Northern part of the country

- Excellent English writing and speaking skills.
- Proficiency in a local language spoken in the Northern part of Ghana is an advantage.
- Results-driven and able to work autonomously
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
