The Ghana Institute of Journalism is a public university that provides specialized education in journalism and communication studies. GIJ is the first school of journalism established in Sub-Saharan Africa and has focused on journalism and communication education for 60 years. GIJ’s accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes seek to prepare professionals with high journalistic standards and ethical communication practices to support Ghana’s growing democracy and development, Over the years, GIJ has churned out many of the country’s leading journalists and communication
professionals.

Job Title: Lecturer

Job Summary

• The successful candidate will be required to teach courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and offer academic counseling and leadership to students

Qualifications

• Possess a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD/DPhil) in Communication or a closely related academic area
• Must have some professional experience in the specific area
• Must have taught for a minimum of 3 years in a higher education institution
• Demonstrate interest in research and publishing

Location: Accra

Job Title: Legal Counsel

Job Summary

• A person seeking appointment as a Legal Counsel must be an individual who understands the university environment and the management of higher education in Ghana as well as higher education laws and national policies

Specific Roles

• Head of the Legal Department of the Institute
• Serve as the Chief legal adviser of the institute
• Act for the institute on all legal matters
• Vet and review all agreements and contracts of the institute
• Draft, review and interpret all agreements involving or concerning the institute
• Ensure that the institute complies with all national legislation and regulations on higher education
• Liaise with external solicitors where required
• Assist in the conduct of all disciplinary processes in the institute
• Attend committee and other meetings as designated
• Represent or ensure appropriate representation in all dispute resolution proceedings
• Conduct all external relations that have legal implications on behalf of the institute
• Discharge any other assignments that shall be deemed necessary for the legal department to perform

Qualifications

• Must possess a minimum of LLM from a recognized University
• Be at least 8 years at the BAR and a member of the Ghana Bar Association
• Have a minimum of 5 years of working experience. (Experience in a higher education environment will be an added advantage)
• Have strong administrative and managerial competence
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Be computer literate
