What is Medicaid

Medicaid is a medical assistance program that provides access to health care for low-income families and individuals. Medicaid also assists the elderly and people with disabilities with the costs of nursing facility care and other medical and long-term care expenses.

In Florida, the Agency for Health Care Administration (Agency) is responsible for Medicaid. The Agency successfully completed the implementation of the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program in 2014. Under the SMMC program, most Medicaid recipients are enrolled in a health plan. Nationally accredited health plans were selected through a competitive procurement for participation in the program.

Provider Enrollment

Provider Enrollment is responsible for enrolling qualified providers to receive Medicaid reimbursement for services rendered to Medicaid recipients. Providers must enroll online in the Florida Medicaid program using the Enrollment Wizard.

The completed application is submitted and all applicable forms uploaded within the Enrollment Wizard. Provider Enrollment will then review the application for accuracy. Upon completion of the enrollment process, approved providers are issued a nine (9)-digit Medicaid provider number. The provider will then be able to participate in the Florida Medicaid program.

Provider Enrollment is also available to assist the provider with enrollment issues such as updating their provider file, change of ownership, and provider renewals.
