ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR M.A. PROGRAMMES

a) Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree (at least 2nd Class Lower Division), with Education component (e.g. B.Ed.), or without Education component (e.g. B.A., B.Sc.) from the University of Education, Winneba or its equivalent from a recognized University in the relevant field of study.

b) Applicants with third (3rd) class division in their respective first degrees would be required to pass an entrance examination and admission selection interview.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR M.Sc PROGRAMMES

Candidates seeking for admission into the programme must have earned a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University in any discipline with at least 2nd Class Lower Division. Or Applicants with third (3rd) class division may be considered for admission on the grounds of substantial working/professional experience and shall pass an entrance examination and interview.

M.SC IN DEVELOPMENT FINANCE

Applicants must have a good first degree (at least Second Class Lower Division) in any academic discipline from a recognised institution. Or

Applicants with third (3rd) class division may be considered for admission on the grounds of substantial working/professional experience.
NB: This programme is available for both Sandwich and Weekend (Part-time) Mode for one (1) academic year, in which students must complete their dissertation.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR M.ED PROGRAMMES

Applicants must:

Possess a first degree (at least 2nd Class Lower Division) from institution accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission of Ghana in the relevant field.

NB: a) Applicants with a second class division (2nd Class Lower or better) degree in other disciplines other than Education are required to obtain a Diploma in Education, Postgraduate Diploma in Education or its equivalence before applying.

Applicants with third (3rd) class division or pass in their respective first degrees with or without education component would be required to pass an entrance examination and admission selection interview.

NB: The duration of M.Ed., M.A. and M.Sc. programmes that are run on sandwich mode is one (1) sandwich year, that is, two (2) sessions, within which students are expected to complete writing of dissertation. Fees are paid per each session.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

  1. A baccalaureate with GPA not below 3.0 from an accredited 4-year higher education in Counselling Psychology or related field of study (e.g. Psychology, Guidance & Counselling, Social Work, and Nursing).
  2. Demonstration of English competencies from an institution that conducted instruction in English or an equivalent score of 86 and above in TOEFL or at least a 6.5 in IELTS.
  3. Computer literacy demonstrated by ease of use of Microsoft office and google application software.
  4. Applicants must pass a digital interview to obtain admission.

MBA PROGRAMMES (WEEKEND MODE)

Candidate seeking Admission into any MBA programme must:
(i) Have obtained a good first degree with at least a Second Class Division in the related field or programme of study from a recognised University. Or

(ii) Applicants with third class degree with a minimum of 5 years working experience in related field of study can also apply. Such applicants must pass the University’s entrance examination and the admission selection interview. Or

(iii) Be a qualified member of one of the following professional bodies constituting the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) e.g. ACCA, ICAG, CIMA and ICAEW.

In addition to any one of the requirement in (a) above, the applicant must have at least one year relevant experience in the private or public sector.

NB: MBA programmes are run Weekend (Part-time) Mode for two (2) academic years, in which students must complete their dissertation.

M.A PROGAMMES (WEEKEND AND REGULAR MODE)

Applicants who seek admission into a Master of Arts programme in the School Communication and Media Studies must have Bachelor’s Degree from any discipline, and should have obtained a class not below Second Class Lower division.

NB: Applicants who obtain a GPA of 3.0 or better at the M.A coursework and are desirous of pursuing the M.Phil. in the field of study are given the opportunity to apply internally for consideration and transition to a one (1) year Top-Up. M.A. in Communication and Media Studies programmes are run on both regular and weekend mode for one (1) academic year, in which students must complete their dissertation.

M.SC. IN DEVELOPMENT FINANCE (WEEKEND MODE)

Applicants must have a good first degree (at least Second Class Lower Division) in any academic discipline from a recognised institution. Or

Applicants with third (3rd) class division may be considered for admission on the grounds of substantial working/professional experience.

NB: This programme is available for both Sandwich and Weekend (Part-time) Mode for one (1) academic year, in which students must complete their dissertation.

POST-GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN TEACHING & LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION (PGDTLHE) – WEEKEND MODE

To qualify for this programme, the applicant should be a:

Beginning lecturer in any recognized tertiary institution who has no formal qualifications in teaching in Higher Education. Or

Master’s / Doctorate degree holder who wishes to pursue academic career as a teacher in tertiary institutions.

NB: This is a postgraduate programme run on weekend basis at the University of Education, Winneba.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (DISTANCE MODE)

Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University in any field of study.

NB: This programme is run for one (1) academic year, in which students must complete their dissertation.

M.ED TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (T.E.S.L.)

i.       Applicants must have good first degree (at least Second Class Lower) in English Language or

ii.      applicants with a good Bachelor’s Degree in any subject area and who TEACH ENGLISH are eligible to apply.

MASTER OF EDUCATION PROGRAMMES RUN BY CODEL – DISTANCE MODE

pplicants should possess a good Bachelor’s Degree, with education component, in the relevant field of study from a recognised University.

Applicants with B.A. or B.Sc. degree without education component must have a Post Graduate Diploma in Education or Diploma in Education in addition.

NB: Subject specific requirements may apply

MASTER OF EDUCATION PROGRAMMES BY ITECPD – DISTANCE MODE

Applicants must possess ONE of the following:

A first degree with education component from a recognized University in the subject specific area and should have taught for at least two years.

A first degree in a subject specific area plus postgraduate diploma/certificate in education.

NB: These Programmes are designed to train graduate teachers who will serve as Mentors, Administrators, Counselling Psychologists and Leaders in Educational Administration and Management. They are of One (1) Year duration.

To complete your application successfully, ensure you have a valid email address, mobile phone number and soft copies of your results slip/transcripts, certificates, passport picture, birth certificate (for mature applicants only) and other documents necessary to support your application.

Log on to www.uew.edu.gh/admissions, select your preferred entry mode to study in the University, Regular/Fulltime, Sandwich, Distance and Postgraduate.

Once you have decided your entry mode, it is time to buy your application form. There are three options available to conveniently buy a form,

  1. Visit our website on www.uew.edu.gh/admissions to buy form online through MTN, VodaCash and AirtelTigo mobile money platforms.
  2. Use the short code *887*9# to buy a form on all mobile networks in Ghana
  3. Buy Voucher from:

Once you have your PIN, click on apply now, then enter your PIN. Where you have a Serial and a PIN enter them as required to progress to the application form.

Proceed to enter your personal details, educational history and results/qualifications, programme choice and attach your supporting documents then submit the application form. You would receive a notification in your email and by text message to your phone when you successfully complete the application form.

Applicants applying for postgraduate programmes should download a Referee Report form and submit to [email protected] after submitting the application forms

Look out for the Progress ID to enable you to continue filling out the application form from which ever point you decide to leave the application before final submission.

Preview the form to ensure all your details provided are accurate and submit. You would then receive a notification of the successful completion of your application in your email and text message.
