GHANA PRISON SERVICE GENERAL ELIGIBILITY FOR RECRUITS (JUNIOR OFFICERS)

All candidates are to satisfy the following requirements:

1. Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth with no criminal record.

2. Must possess a first degree from an accredited university and other relevant professional qualification where specified.

3. Must have completed his/her National Service.

4. Must be computer literate.

5. Must be a minimum of age of 21 and not more than 35 by 31st May 2018.

6. Must be physically and medically fit by the Ghana Prisons Service standards

7. Must be of good character, have the ability to work under pressure and difficult environment.

8. Must not be bonded.

9. Must have a minimum height of 1.68 meters (5ft 6inches) for Males and 1.57 meters (5ft 2inches) for Females

10. Must have an active email account and mobile phone number.

11. Be ready to undergo basic Prison Training and other forms of training.

12. Medical professionals must have completed one year post housemanship with a registered hospital or clinic

1. AGRICULTURE

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least BSc. in AGRICULTURE and MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS PROFESSIONAL WORKING EXPERIENCE
2. DENTAL SURGEON

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must at least possess BACHELOR OF DENTISTRY (BDS) AND REGISTERED MEMBER OF MEDICAL AND DENTAL COUNCIL
3. DOCTOR OF OPTOMETRY

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must at least possess

BSC. OPTOMETRY or

BSC. OPHTHALMIC SCIENCE or

BSC. VISION SCIENCE or

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN OPTOMETRY

and must be a registered member of the Allied Health Professions council.
4. EDUCATION

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have:

(a) B.ED BASIC EDUCATION

(b) B.ED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

(c) B.ED GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
5. GENERAL DUTIES (GRADUATES)

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a minimum of a first degree in any of the following areas. Any additional qualification will be an added advantage.

(a) MPhil IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

(b) B.A. PSYCHOLOGY

(c) SOCIAL SCIENCES / HUMANITIES

(d) BUSINESS AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
6. LEGAL OFFICERS

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a minimum of LLB / BL, CALLED TO BAR AND MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS PROFESSIONAL WORKING EXPERIENCE
7. MEDICAL DOCTOR

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must at least possess

BACHELOR OF MEDICINE

BACHELOR OF SURGERY (MBChB)

MEDICAL DOCTOR (MD)

and a REGISTERED MEMBER OF MEDICAL AND DENTAL COUNCIL
8. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must at least possess BSC. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY and must be a registered member of the Allied Health Professions council.
9. NURSES

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must at least possess BSC. NURSING and a Lincense from the Nursing and Midwives Council of Ghana.

Previous working experience will be an added advantage
10. PHARMACIST

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must at least possess BSC. PHARMACY (B.Pharm) from an accredited university and must be a registered member of the Pharmacy council or the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana.
11. PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must at least possess

BSC. PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT or

BSC. MEDICAL ASSISTANT

and must be a registered member of the Medical and Dental Council.
12. PUBLIC AFFAIRS

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least:

BA COMMUNICATION STUDIES / PUBLIC RELATIONS

FIRST DEGREE IN ANY DISCIPLINE AND A DIPLOMA IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES / PUBLIC RELATIONS

A minimum of 2 years working experience in a reputable print media will be an added advantage
13. RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS

In addition to the general requirements, applicants must be an:

(a) ORDAINED MINISTER OR CHAPLAIN

i. Have at least a first degree in Theology

ii. Be of good standing in a Christian denomination approved by Ghana Catholic Secretariat. the Christian Council of Ghana. the Pentecostal Council of Ghana or other recognized Christian Bodies

(b) IMAM

i. Have at least a first degree in Islamic Studies with an excellent Knowledge in Arabic.

i. Be of good standing in a Muslim denomination approved by the Office of the National / Regional Chief Imam, the office of the Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Muslim mission or other similar nationally recongnized Muslim bodies.
14. TECHNICAL OFFICERS

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have at least:

(a) BSC. LAND ECONOMY

(b) BSC. QUANTITATIVE SURVEYING AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY (BUILDING TECHNOLOGY)

(c) BSC. CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT (BUILDING TECHNOLOGY)

(d) BSC. GEOMATIC / GEODETIC ENGINEERING

(e) BSC. CIVIL ENGINEERING

(f) BSC. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

(g) BSC. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Previous working experience will be an added advantage

GHANA PRISON SERVICE GENERAL ELIGIBILITY FOR RECRUITS (CADET GRADUATES)

Applicant must:

a. Be a Ghanaian.

b. Be of good character and without any criminal record.

c. Be physically and medically fit by Ghana Prisons Service standards.

d. Be between 21 and 32 years by 31st May, 2018.

e. Be between 21 and 35 years by 31st May, 2018. (for ARTISANS only)

f. Not have been dismissed from any public service or any other employment.

g. Be of minimum height of 1.68 meters (5ft 6inches) for males and 1.57 meters (5ft 2inches) for females.

h. Be able to speak and write in fluent English Language.

i. Have an active email account and mobile phone number.

j. Be ready to undergo basic Prisons training and other forms of training.

k. Not be bonded.

l. Be registered with the appropriate professional body and hold a valid PIN (for medical corps)

AVAILABLE CATEGORIES

1. BANDSMEN

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have

a. SSSCE / WASSCE with at least five(5) passes including English Language and Mathematics or

b. GES INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATE or

c. GES (COTVET) CERTIFICATE II or

d. CITY AND GUILDS (INTERMEDIATE) CERTIFICATE or

e. NVTI GRADE I OR TRADE TEST CERTIFICATE II or

f. PROFICIENCY IN BASIC MUSIC (ABRSM) GRADE 4 or

and the following:

Ability to sight-read musical notes

Ability to play Wood Wind or Brass Instruments

Theory and previous experience in a recognized music group will be an added advantage
2. COOK / CATERERS

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have at least any of the following

NVTI GRADE I or Trade Test Certificate II in Hospitality and Catering Management

GES or COTVET Certificate II in Hospitality and Catering Management

CITY and GUILDS (Intermediate) in Hospitality And Catering Management
3. DRIVER MECHANICS / DRIVER ELECTRICIANS / AUTO ELECTRICIANS

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess a professional Driver’s License Class D or above Of 2 or More Years and at least any of the following qualifications

a. GES Intermediate Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering / Electrician

b. GES or COTVET Certificate II in Motor Vehicle Engineering / Electrician

c. CITY And GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate in Internal Combustion Engines And Motor Vehicles / Electrician

d. CITY And GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering / Electrician

e. NVTI Grade I or Trade Test Certificate II in Motor Vehicle Engineering / Electrician
4. ELECTRICIANS

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least any of the following

a. GES Intermediate Certificate In Electrical Installation

b. GES or COTVET Certificate II In Electrical Works

C. CITY and GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate In Electrical Engineering

D. NVTI GRADE I or TRADE TEST Certificate II In Electrical Engineering
5. GENERAL DUTIES

In addition to the General eligibility, applicants must have SSSCE / WASSCE with at least Four(4) credits and passes in English Language and Mathematics.
6. GENERAL NURSES

In addition to the General eligibility, an applicant must possess at least a Diploma in General Nursing, registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and must have completed his/her mandatory rotation

7. HORTICULTURISTS

In addition to the General eligibility and two(2) years practical working experience an applicant must possess at least a certificate in Horticulture

8. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIANS / ASSISTANTS

In addition to the General eligibility, an applicant must be registered with the Allied Professions Council and must have completed their mandatory rotation and must posses at least an HND in Medical Laboratory Technology.

9. METAL SMITH AND WEAPON FITTERS (ARMOURERS)

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least any of the following

a. GES (COTVET) Certificate II in Mechanincal Engineering Technology

b. GES Intermediate Certificate in Welding and Craft Practice

c. GES (COTVET) Certificate II in in Welding and Fabrication

d. CITY And GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate in Electrical and Gas Welding

10. NURSE ANESTHETIST

In addition to the General eligibility, an applicant must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and must have completed his/her mandatory rotation and must posses at least a Diploma in Anaesthetic Nursing.

11. OPHTHALMIC NURSES

In addition to the General eligibility, an applicant must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and must have completed his/her mandatory rotation and must possess at least a Diploma in Ophthalmic Nursing.

12. ORTHOPEDIC NURSES

In addition to the General eligibility, an applicant must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and must have completed his/her mandatory rotation and must possess at least a Diploma in Orthopedic Nursing.

13. PERI-OPERATIVE / CRITICAL / INTENSIVE CARE NURSES

In addition to the General eligibility, an applicant must possess at least a Diploma in Peri-Operative / Critical / Intensive Care Nursing, registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and must have completed his/her mandatory rotation

14. PLUMBERS AND MASONS

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least any of the following

a. GES Intermediate Certificate In Plumbing or Masonry

b. GES or COTVET Certificate In Plumbing or Masonry

C. CITY and GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate In Plumbing or Masonry

D. NVTI GRADE I or TRADE TEST Certificate II In Plumbing or Masonry

15. PSYCHIATRIC NURSES

In addition to the General eligibility, an applicant must possess at least a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and must have completed his/her mandatory rotation

16. REFRIGERATION AND AIR-CONDITIONING TECHNOLOGY

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least any of the following

a. GES Intermediate Certificate in Refrigeration And Air-Conditioning Technology

b. GES or COTVET Certificate II in Refrigeration And Air-Conditioning Technology

c. CITY And GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate In Refrigeration And Air-Conditioning Technology

d. NVTI Grade I or TRADE TEST Certificate II in Refrigeration And Air-Conditioning Technology

17. SPORTSMEN / WOMEN

In addition to the General Eligibility (excluding serials d and e), applicants in listed disciplines must be minimum of 18 and not more than 25 years by 31st May, 2018 and must possess at least four(4) passes at SSSCE / WASSCE or BECE plus vocational / trade certificate

Applicants shall undergo practical test in their respective disciplines

18. STENOGRAPHERS

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least a Stenographer Certificate (COTVET / NVTI) or Stenographer I or II Cetificates (Government Secretarial School)

19. TAILORS, TEXTILES AND DESIGN AND COBBLERS / LEATHER WORK

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least any of the following:

a. GES INTERMEDIATE CERTIFICATE

b. GES or COTVET CERTIFICATE II

c. CITY AND GUILDS (INTERMEDIATE) CERTIFICATE

d. NVTI GRADE I OR TRADE TEST CERTIFICATE II

20. TECHNICAL OFFICERS (AGRICULTURE)

In addition to the General eligibility, applicants must possess at least a Diploma in Agriculture.

21. TRACTOR OPERATORS / MECHANICS

In addition to the General eligibility and two(2) years practical working experience an applicant applicant must possess at least one of the following certificates and should be able to repair tractors.

Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate.

Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II.

22. WELDING AND FABRICATION

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least any of the following

a. GES Intermediate Certificate in Welding and Fabrication

b. NVTI Grade I or TRADE TEST Certificate II in Welding and Fabrication

c. COTVET Certificate II in Welding and Fabrication

d. CITY And GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate in Welding and Fabrication

23. WOOD CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY / CARPENTRY

In addition to the General Eligibility, an applicant must possess at least any of the following

a. GES Intermediate Certificate in Wood Construction Technology

b. GES or COTVET Certificate II in Wood Construction Technology

c. CITY And GUILDS (Intermediate) Certificate in Carpentry / Joinery

d. NVTI Grade I or TRADE TEST Certificate II in Carpentry / Joinery

 

2018/2019 Ghana Prison Service Recruitment Academic qualification

All applications must possess a minimum academic qualification of Six [6] credits [A1 – C6] at WASSCE, including English language and Mathematics.

Purchase a Voucher from any Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) branch for Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 50.00).

  • Provide official names, date of birth, active email address and mobile phone number to the bank as part of the purchase.
  • The applicant shall maintain the same details throughout the application process and training. The purchased Voucher is not transferable;

Step Two (2): Ghana Prison Service Recruitment Online Application Portal

Having purchased a Voucher, the Applicant should log on to the online recruitment portal at http://prisons.gov.gh.services/ with these recommended browsers; (1) Mozilla Firefox (2) Google Chrome or (3) Internet Explorer

A page will open, which will require the Applicant to CREATE ACCOUNT or SIGN IN. Click on CREATE ACCOUNT, a new page will open, which will require you to answer a few questions leading to the creation of account.

This is how to create an account:
i. enter the email address used in purchasing the Voucher;
ii. pick or choose any password which will be known to you alone and which you can remember;
iii. confirm the password; and
iv. verify the Voucher purchased by entering the Serial Number and PIN.

Stages of Ghana Prison Service recruitment process

1. After online application, applicants who meet the initial requirements will be shortlisted and invited to centres of their choice for further processes.

2. At recruitment centres, there should be

a. Body examination and selection

b. Examination and inspection of academic and personal documents

3. Successful candidates in [2] above shall be made to write aptitude test

4. Candidates who pass the aptitude test will go through a thorough criminal and background check.

5. Then there shall be a medical examination for successful applicants.

6. The final stage of the processes is invitation to commence training.

Things to note

1. Forms are not being sold for this recruitment exercise

2. Filling in of recruitment form is done online only.

3. The Prison Service has not contracted any middlemen to recruit on its behalf.

4. Read guidelines thoroughly and carefully before filling the form

5. Do not submit more than one application; you will be disqualified if you do so

6. All academic certificates will be vetted at WAEC, and any applicant who is found to have presented forged document will be prosecuted

7. All correspondence with applications will be done through their e-mails only

8. Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for further processes.
